How do you use the Phokis Guide?

Welcome to the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey guide and walkthrough for Phokis. This is not a straight-forward path to just one quest, but adds in a lot of the side missions as well as treasures I’ve found and obtained along the way.

  • There will be main questlines, as well as side quests, and treasures.
  • Most of the important items and NPCs are color-coordinated so they stand out.
  • I played this game first via Hard Mode, but switched to Easy, because it seems the XP is the same no matter the difficulty.

What won’t you find in the Phokis Guide?

  • Achievements.
  • Abilities I’ve chosen–this is all on you, baby.
  • Every single quest (some of them I skip because I automatically complete them before I get them).
  • Screenshots of every single thing. C’mon now, look around.
  • Locations of Orichalcum.

General tips for playing Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

  • Use Ikaros constantly to scout areas out and find treasures, especially before entering caves.
  • Whistle to get someone’s attention, but don’t abuse it.
  • Hide bodies in shrubbery.
  • Create fire arrows by dropping your torch on the ground, then dipping your arrow in the flame.
  • Phobos runs faster than you, but you climb better than a horse.
  • Be on the lookout for Orichalcum, as it’s used to buy other interesting things.

Pirate Island

If you didn’t do this one beforehand, when making your way to Megaris, then you can do it now. It just means you haven’t accepted a specific quest yet for the island. For now, we skip the quest.

Get rid of the enemies and you should see some floating debri in the water nearby as well as some sharks.

Dive down in this location and there’s an underwater cave with two Treasures inside. Get in there as fast as you can, as you will more than likely run out of air before reaching the surface, but only by a small amount.

A Pirate’s Life

You’ll find the questgiver on a battered ship once you’re close enough. But before we finish it, turn around and go into the doorway up the steps.

The floor collapses.

One of the ways to avoid it is to wall-climb across to the Treasure. If you do fall, however, you can just make your way back up, while also acquiring other treasures. We’ll come back to this place another time if you don’t get the ones you can.

Now go back to Pirate Island to find the missing brother in a cage (that he wasn’t in before). Carry him up to the cliffside. Once the conversation is over, go back to your ship and mention the brother is dead to recruit the other for your ship.

Ketos Shipwreck

There are two Treasures found here, guarded by some sharks. Beyond them, you’ll also want to grab a quest-specific item called Gyke’s Bracelet. You’ll be needing it for a future quest. (No worries if you forget though, you can just fast-travel to your ship again!)

Bulis Military Camp

This is a small camp filled with only a handful of enemies. Take advantage of the bobcat trapped in the cage, as they prove as excellent distractions. The location completes itself once you’ve grabbed all the loot.

Synchronization

You won’t find anything at Hut of Hyleus but a synchronization point. So climb on top of the hut and call for Ikaros and enjoy the scenery around you.

Enemy Camp

Once done with scoping the area, check out the random camp not too far away. It’s full of enemies, but also has a Treasure chest you can loot and someone you can free.

Desphina Fort

Incoming large military fort.

There’s a tree limb you can use when coming up on the fort to get the jump on people, unless you enjoy climbing up walls and pulling people off the edge. Typically, I’ll do that to the stronger captains, since it kills them faster than hand-to-hand.

Once on top of the outer walls, I do an entire circle, killing people one by one and throwing their bodies off the wall. That way they aren’t as noticeable to their comrades. Once they’ve all bit the dust, my advice would be to set a trap on the bonfire, because if the dead are noticed, that’s the one place someone is going to run to for reinforcements.

Trust me on this.

There’s a bear locked in a cage you could use as a distraction, as well as another animal–I think a lynx? They aren’t really close together, and the lynx is sort of separate from a lot of wanderers, but it can still pick people off.

You can also get the ostraka A Finger Tip in this area.

After completing all the objectives, you can move on.

Synchronization

Climb onto the tree limb overlooking the cliff at Satyr’s Respite and synchronize.

Snake Temple

You’ll be coming back to this place later, but since it’s close, you might as well complete the area as needed.

The enemies here have large shields, so they’re a bit resistant to your melee attacks, but the beauty of this place are the cliffs. Even if you don’t have the Sparta Kick, you can still hard hit them enough for them to take a tumble backwards and off the cliff.

An easy kill situation.

Hunter’s Rest

If it’s night and you’re lucky, you can kill some of the enemies while they’re sleeping. After that, I waited until another came around the corner to assassinate, which left the captain and their wolf.

Things may be a bit different for you though.

Also, down on the edge of the cliffside, while facing the Tomb of Tityos, you can find Orichalcum.

Lookout Camp

Head on down the mountain until you reach Lookout Camp, where you’ll need to look out for the guards and the prisoners in cages.

They’re tied up as well, so don’t open the cages and then run off. You’re not exactly helping them at that point, you’re only teasing them about the possibility of being free.

Nine Roads Camp

It’s on the edge of the border of Phokis, so, y’know, don’t wander too far off the beaten path or you’ll step into Boeotia, a level 35+ zone.

They’ve got an animal in a cage, so as always, use that to your advantage while also picking people off in the tall grass–if you’re into assassinating.

Tomb of Tityos

I don’t see this place as being a tomb, exactly, but whatever the game says is what it says. There aren’t many guards, and they aren’t quite gathered together in a group. Pick them off separately if you can, but if not, there’s only one that may cause problems.

Once they’re out of the picture, take the Treasures.

Wolf Den

Been a while since we had to kill an alpha, so get ready to kill an alpha wolf and two other small ones.

The alpha literally jumped at me and fell off the cliff when I dodged, so…time your dodge right and you might get an easy win like me.

Solitude Tower

We’ll be heading east side again to brush up against the border. We’ll have a few different enemies to deal with, one of them harassing a prisoner by dunking his head in water. Just be wary of the captain, and get the Treasure in the tower.

Sanctuary of Athena Pronaia

This places looks like a small town, but it’s kinda not. It has guards patrolling the area, and these guys are the heavily armored and heavy-hitters.

Have fun kicking them off the side of the cliff if you can, then grab the Treasures.

As a side note, the Leader was isolated and nearby, so I went ahead and took him out. I don’t know if he’s typically in the same spot for everyone though.

Photios’s Pre-Tirement (start)

Joke around with this guy, and possibly have him pay you, or decide on a freebie for all time’s sake. Doesn’t matter too much, I suppose, it just depends on the character you’re building up to be, as a misthios.

Consulting a Ghost (end)

When you get close enough to the quest, a cutscene will begin with Barnabas and another man. Talk, talk, talk.

When you’re done talking, head toward the temple just ahead and speak with the “bouncer”. No need to stand in line. You’re a misthios, after all.

Unfortunately, you don’t get the answers you seek.

Age is Just a Number (start)

Straight ahead of you, literally just a few steps, is a feisty old woman wanting to get her freak on. Accept the quest and we’ll go from there.

  • The deer are easy enough to find and kill.
  • The bear is going to be in Desphina Fort. If you killed and looted it already, no worries, there are bear areas in the future.

Synchronization

Climb to the top of the Temple of Apollo and send Ikaros out to survey the land.

Tomb of the First Pythia

There are a couple treasure chests as well as an Ancient Stele to find. First things first, watch out for the snakes. Next, watch out for the traps.

If you’re unable to find the stele, it’s behind a breakable wall.

Photios’s Pre-Tirement (end)

You’ll find more information regarding the gems in the Korykian Cave after killing someone and looting a note on their person. Go ahead and scout through the rest of the cave in search of Treasure, as it’s a decently sized cave.

Fast travel to Satyr’s Respite, then travel southwest to Desphina Fort to find the gems. Ikaros will help with this.

We killed everyone in the fort at the start of coming to this zone, so the mobs may or may not have respawned. I know they did for me, but I’d left the game for a while before logging back in to finish this guide.

Once you get the gems, make sure you kill and loot the bear, then head back to the quest-giver.

Age is Just a Number (end)

You should’ve gotten two types of loot needed so far for completing this quest, so if that’s the case, just head over to their house and interact for a scene that ends in your choice.

Prometheus and the Birth of Humankind

Here, you can find Pressed for Time, in which case you’d need to head back to the Leader House in order to find the object required.

The Wolf’s Fate (end)

Head west and speak with Elpenor. After a conversation and a couple different choices on your end, you’ll find yourself in battle with his guards.

Check out three different objects in Elpenor’s house before setting out.

Synchronization

Before heading anywhere important, you’ll need to travel to Ianos Hangout. I swear I don’t use these enough throughout my playthrough. Then again, I try to do things in a specific order…

Crewless (start)

Start this quest and finish it after speaking with her. At least, you should be able to finish it, if you did the shipwreck ordeal at the start of this guide. If not, fast travel to the ship, grab the necklace, and fast travel back to this area.

Leader House

The leader shouldn’t be in his house at the moment, mainly because you’ve infiltrated one of the main forts and destroyed a lot of the goods. Kill everyone and loot all the treasures.

Behind the house, in a big bowl of olives, you can complete the ostraka Pressed for Time.

Guesthouse

Time to infiltrate the Guesthouse and wreck everyone’s lives. Fast travel to Ianos Hangout to get there quicker. You’ll find a couple Treasures inside.

Gymnasium

I recommend doing cleaning up this area of enemies at night, otherwise there are a lot of bystanders to deal with and you’ll be spotted and it’s just bothersome. With nightfall, you can simply sweep the outer halls of the gym and then go for the captain.

Enemy Camp

The camp doesn’t have a name, but it’s close enough to the Gymnasium to check out and kill the enemies. When everyone’s dead, you may or may not automatically end a side mission.

House of Pythia

There’s some big dudes guarding the Pythia in this area, but if you can sneak around them and get inside unnoticed, good on you. If not…well it is kinda hard to find the right time to maneuver around them all.

Interact with the door for a cutscene.

The Truth Will Out (end)

Speak with Herodotos not too far from where you are now.

Amphikleia Military Camp

Fast travel to Temple of Apollo.

You can complete the ostraka A Specific General in this area if you haven’t already. A group of seven statues, I believe? It’s in the basket of spilled flowers.

Head north to the camp where you’ll find several enemies that are spaced out, but pretty easy to take out. For a distraction, I’d use both the lion and jaguar that are in the cages.

Bear Grotto

There were way too many bears in this area for my liking. Like, five of them in total. Just make sure you don’t take them all on if there’s that many of them for you. You’re biggest concern is killing the Alpha and looting the Treasures.

Lamia Bandit Camp

Go to the next area where you’ll find bandits.

For me, they were all chasing something in a group, so I could easily loot everything and free the guy in a cage. Of course, when I did, they all seemed to ignore me and went straight for him.

I really never understand that logic.

Synchronization

Head up to Kephisos Spring and enjoy the environment around you.

Forest Camp

You’ll go through the town of Lalaia, which is one of the question marks on the map. Further ahead, is another one, being the camp. The enemies here are fairly spaced out and there’s not a whole lot of cover to hide in.

It’s more of a charge in and take ’em out ordeal.

Pharsalos Fort

This is a pretty big fort, and it’s where Elpenor is supposedly hiding. Have Ikaros find where he is for you.

Take advantage of the boars trapped in cages and try not to attract their attention.

I hate dealing with boars, they’re so obnoxious.

Take care of everything that needs doing in this place, but don’t exceed your own expectations. At this point, nobody is in charge of this zone, so weakening the faction is kind of a moot point.

Erochos Military Camp

Northwest is a camp that has a few enemies, but more importantly, a lion to distract said enemies in a cage. Release it, help it kill everyone around you, and possibly end its life as well if you have no more use of it.

Snake in the Grass (end)

After finding out he wasn’t in the fort, you now know where he actually is.

Fast travel to Satyr’s Respite and make your way to Snake Temple. He’ll be in the upper cavern area, which is directly looking down with Ikaros. From the tree branch you’re on, of course.

He’s a pretty crappy fighter, honestly.

No wonder he had to hire you.

The Serpent’s Lair

Fast travel to Temple of Apollo and speak with Herodotos.

Head down the steps and through the lineup of guards, and then you’ll enter the main chamber.

On the left side, go through the waterfall and find some letters. Next, in the open area, you can walk up to to other groups of people for cutscenes. Lastly, on the right is a cavern opening where you’ll come across an angry cult member teaching another one a lesson.

Once you’re done with all that, head to the center podium, where you’ll need to place the final shard onto it.

Helping a Healer

You can decide to woo this guy if you want, with the heart option, of course. After you’ve accepted the quest, head down to the small stream where a bunch of wolves are. They’re guarding the plants, without actually guarding them.

By picking five of the plants by the stream, you’ll have enough to complete the first part of the quest.

The second part consists of you taking the herbs to three of the townsfolk. They aren’t too widely separated, don’t worry. Return to the man, and prepare for his next request.

Sins of the Past

Follow the man to his grandmother. Why? Because you’re wanting to get on his good side, of course. But not only that, his grandmother is a false prophet, possibly the one from your past. Seems a little justice is in order, don’t you think?

Unfortunately, she’s not here right now, but there are clues to look for.

One of them is the man standing outside the house. The second is a clue within the house. Third is in a fire pit beside the outside of the house.

Speak to the man about your findings.

The Unkindest Cut

Go west to the farmhouse, kill everyone around you, and unlock the cage this false prophet is in. There’s actually another person in a cage as well.

Follow Praxithia out a ways past the site until you two can talk.

When the young man comes around, you’re given a choice.

Synchronization

South is a building called the Temple of Artemus. Not really a big building, but an area to survey.

The Daughters of Artemis (start)

Right next to the temple, you’ll find a woman with a quest.

Battlefield

All right, now’s the time to choose whose side your on in the battle for the zone. Someone has to take control–will you choose the Spartans or the Athens?

When you’re on the field, a big ol’ merc will come after you as well.

Good luck!

Kalydonian Boar / The Daughters of Artemis (end)

There’s a reason I waited so long in questing throughout this zone to tackle this boar. If you’re too low level and not geared enough, you’re likely to get slaughtered. So it’s best to have the gear you need to prepare for the fight ahead.

I personally went for a mace as a weapon, but shorter weapons work as well, as long as you stick to the side of the boar, and don’t let it charge you.

I made sure my gear was warrior orientated. Due to me typically speccing as an assassin, it meant I had to buy a second gear slot so I could change all my armor and weapons. Assassination abilities aren’t terribly great in the battle, and while some hunter abilities aren’t bad, warrior is just the better choice.

Speaking of hunter abilities–I took…Rain of Arrows, I think? When I got the chance, like during a slow-motion dodge, I’d attack the groups of smaller boars with it. Aside from that, the warrior ability to heal really pays off.

Basically, kill the smaller boars first, as they prove a nuisance and may distract you from the big boss of the battlefield.

Always know where they are, and when they’re charging. Constantly dodge.

Loot the Kalydonian Boar when you’re done and return to the quest-giver.

Cave of Kratos

This should be the final area in the zone to check out.

Don’t worry, you’re not going to meet Kratos in here, but you will get to see some enemies, just be watchful, because it’s dark up in here. At the bottom of the main cave (and in the water at the first plummet down) is a Treasure, as well as on the right side, which I almost missed.

Once you’ve completed the cave, follow the cave out where you’ll find Herodotos at the very bottom of the open area.

Memories Awoken (start)

Speak with him for an epic cutscene.

Hull, Yeah!

After doing everything you’ve already done, you should have the supplies you need in order to complete this quest.

Go into your ship menu and upgrade your hull. I recommend upgrading more than that, but for the purpose of the quest, that’s all you need to do.
