Snake in the Grass is a mission in The Wolf and the Snake you’ll get in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey within the zone of Phokis.

Find Elpenor
The game doesn’t give you any kind of hint on where Elpenor is if you haven’t taken the time to speak with the oracle in The Truth Will Out, but if you have, then you’ll know exactly where he’s hiding.
Make your way up to the bottom portion of Valley of the Nymph. You’ll come across Pharsalos Fort. It’s here that Elpenor is supposedly hiding.
Assassinate Elpenor
Once you take the doppelganger out, you’ll get Letter from Elpenor indicating his actual whereabouts.
Take out all the guards outside the area, and if you want to have a real good time, make sure you have the Sparta Kick ability. One by one they’ll be flying off the cliff.
Elpenor is hiding in the cave. Before finishing him off, speak to him for a cutscene.
Why can you not find Elpenor?
Unfortunately, even if you do know where Elpenor is hiding, if you haven’t done the prerequisite quest to fish out his location, he just won’t be at the fort. Luckily, though, you’ve taken care of everyone at the fort and it should be no problem in finding him later.
