Tin Ore will forever, and possibly always, be mined by me via Hillsbrad Foothills.

There’s not only a lot of it to be found, but also Silver Ore. Likewise, there’s also a ton of rare mobs you could run into by following my routes, or even just floundering around the zone in search of the nodes. I’m pretty sure the rare mobs drop transmog items that sell for a hefty amount–but that’s all RNG-based.

When I first started mining this ore, I stuck with the Stranglethorn zone.

I was in that zone so much, I just wasn’t feeling it anymore. Trees, trees, trees.

I needed a change of scenery.

Thus, Hillsbrad helped with that. Maybe because it’s more of an open area. Don’t get me wrong, there are still a lot of trees–not to mention the caves.

FAQ

What are your PC specs?

What addons are used for farming Tin Ore in WoW?

Is this a Tin Ore mining route for Classic WoW?

No. I play retail, not Classic World of Warcraft, so these routes might not be the ones for you to go by.

In case they aren’t, you might want to check out Gold Goblin, as they might have updated Mining routes for Classic.

What professions benefit from Mining?

First off, Mining, because you can’t exactly mine without said profession to begin with. Though you can still possibly acquire ore through other means–such as treasures and chests you pick up while fishing. Mining, of course, also allows you to smelt the ore you have into bars–beneficial in other crafting professions.

A secondary profession that you might be interested in is:

  • Jewelcrafting

Jewelcrafting allows you to prospect ore in stacks of five (5), in order to obtain gems, which in turn a Jewelcrafter can craft items out of. While certain gems aren’t huge on the auction house market, others can be. Like all things, it’s a big ol’ gamble.

What else can you get from farming Tin Ore?

You have a chance of gathering Lesser Moonstone, Moss Agate, Shadowgem, and Jade.

Maps, Routes, and Data

Reduced resolution
The routes in this section offer you full view of the maps in question, at a reduced resolution of 1280×720. In order to get the full resolution of 2560×1440, you’ll need to purchase my In-Depth Farming Guide. It offers a variety of routes for each zone, with all the data I’ve accumulated over the years of farming.

  • My miner is a Horde druid, thus giving faster in-and-out flight form.
  • Mining skill isn’t high enough? Then you’ll gather Tin Ore Nugget.
  • Overall farming time per zone: 30 minutes.

Eastern Kingdoms

Eastern Kingdoms holds the two zones that I tend to veer toward when it comes to farming Tin Ore. Of course, the two zones in question are also farmed by most of the other gatherers as well, so it’s a matter of sharing is caring.

Hillsbrad Foothills

Tin Ore and the Best Routes for Farming Them

This is a horde zone.

This zone can net you a ton of ore, but in saying that, there’s going to possibly be a lot of competition coming your way. While I don’t personally go into caves, if you find competition on the outside, try going into the caves and nabbing the ore, as most farmers won’t bother.

  • Tin Ore – 370

Northern Stranglethorn

Tin Ore and the Best Routes for Farming Them

This is a horde zone.

If you don’t acquire enough ore as it comes up on the route, then the respawn of the nodes you’ve already gotten will take a while longer. So make sure you grab all the ore that shows up. There’s a small section that gives Iron Ore that I added in, only to help with the respawn a bit more.

  • Tin Ore – 248

Kalimdor

While the zones below aren’t as popular as the ones above (at least, in my opinion), they may still have some kind of traffic in regards to farmers. Just think of the places closer to large cities and high-questing zones as zones that might have others searching the area for nodes.

Ashenvale

Tin Ore and the Best Routes for Farming Them

Worst part about this zone? The trees. Best part about this zone? The amount of Tin acquired. You’ll have less competition here because it’s not much of an open area as Hillsbrad is.

  • Tin Ore – 333

This zone has been mined to completion in my In-Depth Farming Guide, meaning you can now see how long it took me to mine 1000 Tin and more from this route alone.

Stonetalon Mountains

Tin Ore and the Best Routes for Farming Them

I had to improvise a bit with this map, because I didn’t want to get too close to any faction bases. I like this location due to the fact you’re not flying your way through huge masses of trees. Also: No caves. (I’m looking at you, Hillsbrad.)

  • Tin Ore – 244

Professions

If you’re curious as to how much gold you can possibly gain from the items listed below, you can always check out The Undermine Journal, choose your region, and then your realm. After that, search for the items below and see what they’ve been selling for lately.

Jewelcrafting

For a long while, at least one of these gems was worth a lot on the Auction House. Now days the prices might not have held up so much, but gems are used in necklaces and rings, which aren’t found all that much as far as world drops go. Not to mention, a jewelcrafter needs to have ore to prospect gems, unless they plan on just buying them on the AH.
