Saronite Ore is abundant in numerous zones.

But I was always worried about getting ganked in Wintergrasp, because PvP was (and has) never been my thing.

Icecrown had a good collection of ore to gather throughout the zone, but it became increasingly annoying to not be able to get certain nodes, because they’d be sitting in a crevice smack-dab in the center of a mob of zombies.

My gear score has never been that high, because raiding isn’t my thing, so Icecrown got crossed off my list.

Which left me with Sholazar Basin. Loved this zone. Didn’t have too many mobs to deal with while farming, but I did have a ton of competition. And still do. Seems everyone prefers this zone over many of the others, but check out the information below to view all my farming routes!

FAQ

What are your PC specs?

What addons are used for farming Saronite Ore in WoW?

What professions benefit from Mining?

First off, Mining, because you can’t exactly mine without said profession to begin with. Though you can still possibly acquire ore through other means–such as treasures and chests you pick up while fishing. Mining, of course, also allows you to smelt the ore you have into bars–beneficial in other crafting professions.

A secondary profession that you might be interested in is:

  • Jewelcrafting

Jewelcrafting allows you to prospect ore in stacks of five (5), in order to obtain gems, which in turn a Jewelcrafter can craft items out of. While certain gems aren’t huge on the auction house market, others can be. Like all things, it’s a big ol’ gamble.

What Mining routes aren’t mentioned?

There are a couple zones that have Saronite nodes, but they just didn’t make the cut as far as farming this specific ore went. But no worries…you can still get a ton of ore from the routes that are actually mentioned.

Dismissed Zones

  • The Storm Peaks
I once had created a route in Storm Peaks for gathering ore, but it was never very good. Several locations of the ore landed in caves which I don’t go into, and then there were far too many ups and downs to really justify the amount of ore gained.
  • Zul’Drak
There are nodes of this ore in Zul’Drak, but they are very few in number compared to Cobalt. Thus, if you’re searching for this ore in this location…you might want to rethink your choices.

What else can you get from farming Saronite Ore?

You have a chance of gathering Crystallized Earth, Crystallized Shadow, and WotLK gems.

Icecrown

Saronite Ore Farming Route in Icecrown

As you can tell, this route focuses on one side of Icecrown, thus you can always farm the other side as well–there’s not too much difference between the two, if you map the route correctly. It was a pretty rocky start to this zone. I wasn’t sure if there were others farming the ore, or if it was too spaced, but eventually I obtained a good amount.

Now you’re probably wondering why I don’t have a second route for the other side. Simple: I couldn’t get a decent amount of ore over there as I did with this side. I tested three routes in total, and this one came out the winner of all of them. Maybe it was simply RNG having a bad day, but it is what it is.

Sholazar Basin

Saronite Ore Farming Route in Sholazar Basin

Sholazar Basin used to net me a lot more ore than it does now days. With so few competition on your tail, the node respawns don’t show up as often. You’ll start to notice that nodes are few and far between, which causes this zone to be a last choice scenario. It still give a good amount of ore, but definitely not the best place, and a rather boring scenic route.

  • Saronite Ore – 128

Wintergrasp

Saronite Ore Farming Route in Wintergrasp

There was a problem with this zone before, with the time between battles only being ten minutes, which limited the farming. But that is fixed now. Now, your biggest problem will be if there’s actually a battle going on while your farming. If you have instant-cast for flight, you won’t have a problem. Whenever the warning pops up to dismount, just dismount and then mount back up again and continue flying. Rinse and repeat.
