A Gift From the Past - Horizon: Zero Dawn Guide — The straightforward path

Once you’ve fallen down into the cave, there are two paths you can take, but each one of them leads to the exact same entryway where you’ll need to crouch to get through. The right side will take a smidge longer as you’re kind of looping around, while the straightforward path gets you there faster.

Or maybe it’s the same time both ways? It doesn’t matter.

Once you’ve crouched through to the next area, to the left you’ll see a shaft of light highlighting a doorway you can get through. It’s just hard to see the doorway from where you stand. Head through there and once again there’s another shaft of light highlighting the direction you need to go in order to get to the next area.

It’s on the left side. Again.

This time it’s a main path up the stairs (but before you approach the steps, if you look left when first entering this area, you’ll notice there’s some yellow mechanism in there that you won’t be able to obtain until you’re an adult and come back to this area).

Eventually if you keep heading straight, there’s going to be a shaft of light shining down on a corpse.

After approaching, you’ll notice a device on their ear. Interact with it.

Find a way out

If you look ahead, past the small set of steps with the device active, you’ll notice that the power is off for the bunker door, therefore you can’t go that way yet.

Use the Holo Lock

Head down the hall to the right in order to get into the room with the connecting lock. If you look ahead on the right you’ll notice the lock shows a pink strip on the bottom. Interact with the Holo Lock on the left side and turn it so the pink strip on here is also on the bottom.

The main door is no longer locked.

Once through the door, at the end of the hall is a Audio Datapoint (8/63) titled For Director Evans. Go right and down the steps. Further ahead will be another corpse on the ground.

Scan the device

Activate the device, then hover over the device on the corpse’s ear to watch a hologram. This will be the first Hologram Datapoint (1/22) you’ll find that’s titled Happy Birthday Isaac!

While there are other Datapoints to find in this area, you’ll be able to come back to this place later in the game, so obtaining them now is purely your choice.
