Kombi Travels – Jigsaw Landscapes, they didn’t do much traveling.

I was looking through the emotional tag on Steam to see what games I might be interested in crying through. Turns out, I didn’t really feel like crying, I just wanted to do some jigsaw work. This game was purchased in a bundle with several others.

Who is this game for?

Around 3 hours if you just want to do the puzzles on “fun” difficulty.

Explanation to Negative Feedback

Can’t hear soundtrack

You’re better off listening to your own music, because it’s too low to hear. At least for me. I’m not cranking my volume just to listen to–supposedly–one soundtrack throughout the entire game.

Difficulty clicking on pieces on left side

I don’t know what it is with the left side of the board, but there’s one spot where you just can not click on puzzle pieces. I spent almost a full minute trying to move one piece out of that location.

Hard to see pieces

The puzzle pieces and landscapes in general are really bright, and looking at the pieces for too long gave me a headache. There’s only so long someone can stare at blinding light before it gets to them. And the fact that I couldn’t find some of my pieces along the outside of the board became a little agitating.

Not many puzzles

For puzzles based on traveling–and knowing the amount of places there are in the world that people would love to see, this game doesn’t offer vey many puzzles. Six of them, and a couple are just the people getting in their car and driving away.

Explanation to Positive Feedback

Scroll around scenery

After you’ve completed a puzzle, you can actually scroll around the landscapes, which is pretty cool. Instead of it being a small static image that you just completed, it turns out to be something a bit more.

Variety of modes

I do like the fact that there are many modes to choose from before you start working on any of the puzzles. It makes it really kid friendly. And for those of us who enjoy our puzzles…pro mode is a real doozy.

Kombi Travels – Jigsaw Landscapes Review

TL;DR Review

It’s been a while since I worked on any Steam puzzle games and while I know not to get my hopes up with them, I kind of wish I would’ve enjoyed this one more. But on top of the fact that I mostly listened to silence while playing the full game, and there were moments where I couldn’t grab some of the puzzle pieces, and the idea that in order to get all the achievements I have to do all these puzzles multiple times on different modes?

Kill me now.

It became too monotonous. And while it was nice being able to look around the landscape after completing a puzzle, it just isn’t enough to keep me playing any longer than I wanted.

The too-bright landscapes gave me a migraine as well, which sometimes happens anyway when I play puzzle games, due to being so concentrated on the screen and figuring where to lay what piece, but…it was definitely the brightness that did me in.

If some of these flaws were fixed, and if Kombi has actually done a bit more traveling–(I mean really, like three places?)–I might’ve been more invested.

Awkwardly enough, the last puzzle has a stone that says “We where here” instead of ‘were’. Kind of made me wince, but their heart’s in it.
