A Fresh Start is a quest within the game Dredge.

Met the Mayor of Greater Marrow, who sent me out to catch some fish and find my bearings. Seems nice enough. Warned me to be back before nightfall, though, said something about fog — bit dramatic.

A Fresh Start Guide

Catch fish for the day

The Mayor asked me to catch as many fish as I can, then head back to Greater Marrow.

You’ve got a pretty slow boat speed right now, so you won’t be able to travel that far, and that’s okay. You’ll either be wanting to fish the schools of Blue Mackerel or Cod. The Blue Mackerel have the shape of a normal fish and take up two straight slots. The Cod has a curved shape and can be used to fill corner spaces.

In order to catch the fish, you’ll need to hit the appropriate button when the line is in the green. Yellow areas mean a record fish.

You should have enough time to fish three different schools before needing to head back before nightfall.

Sell fish at Fishmonger

The Mayor has asked me to sell what I caught to the Fishmonger.

Interact with the Fishmonger area and you’ll meet a man with a fish cleaver and a chopped fish on the table. It’s here where you’ll be wanting to sell any fish you obtain. You’ll notice that each fish has a different selling price as well, depending on the size of the fish as well as if it’s a record one as well (which will only up the price a couple dollars, probably, but still).

There is a button you can press to mass-sell all your fish, but make sure to use this only when you don’t have a specific fish someone else needs.

As for me, all my fish accumulated to $155.81, but some of that will go to the boat’s loan, so in reality, I only got $132.44. Don’t worry though, the loan is only $50, which is a steal for a boat. Any other game would say our loan is like 50k or something crazy.

Leave the Fishmonger and the Mayor will give you a Research Part. These are important to granting you extra equipment that you’ll be needing in the future.

Visit the Shipwright

The Mayor told me to go to the Shipyard to meet the Shipwright.

Interact with the Shipwright area to meet the woman who will be repairing your ship as well as giving it upgrades.

Meeting the Shipwright will unlock the achievement Introductions.

There are a variety of tabs above that you can switch to, but you won’t need to worry too much about them right now. Instead, you’ll want to focus on buying a second fishing rod. The one you have already can catch Coastal fish, the ones you’re looking to buy can catch Shallow fish. So each fishing rod can catch a specific type of fish that the others can’t.

I typically go for the Weighted Line due to the faster fishing speed, though it does cost more.

Alternatively, if you back out onto the main screen and click the gear icon above your boat, you can wait to get a second Research Part, in order to be able to buy a Flexible Fishing Pole, which can catch both Coastal and Shallow fish as well as a high fishing speed. This way you won’t need two different fishing rods in your inventory.

If you choose this route, you’ll need to wait until you can fish up dredge pools, so it’s wise to buy the cheaper Simple Skimmer at the Shipwright, because you will need to fish up Shallow fish for Caught to Order.

With the installment time–it passes while you’re still on the screen with her. You don’t have to go out on the water and waste time.
