Explanation to Negative Feedback

Puzzle completion confusing

The Mermaid Mask

It’s the only con that I can think of and maybe if you’re coming back from the first game to play this one it wouldn’t be too much of an issue, but because it’s been so long and a refresher is needed, I couldn’t figure out how to complete a puzzle.

I think the reason for this is most games these days auto-complete when a puzzle’s done.

So I had everything in their correct places, but because the game wasn’t telling me everything was correct, I thought it was wrong.

From the first game, I remembered that the keyhole icon in the top right is the hint button. But apparently it’s also the completion button, to see if you’ve got it right. I wish they would’ve stated that’s what the icon is for instead of having a finger pointing at the keyhole.

I was just afraid it was going to give me a hint on what I was supposed to do and I didn’t want that.

Explanation to Positive Feedback

Looks very Lovecraftian

The Mermaid Mask

From the green lighting effect that we see throughout the opening of the game, to the unnatural looking buoy, to the big painting in the parlor. Aesthetically, I feel like it’s very Lovecraftian. But I don’t know if that’s actually going to be the case in the long run.

I mean, it could’ve just been how this place is set up to look.

Straight up though, I love the artwork of this game. Just saying that right here right now without putting another pros section.

Grimoire asking the real questions

The Mermaid Mask

Does a serpent with legs count as a serpent?

I mean, we’ve got all these categories of dragon and such. Like the wyrm, the wyvern, the dragon, the drake, the hydra, and so on. I’m sure someone out there would know what this one represents, but neither I nor the detectives are well experienced in the mythological field it seems.

Voice acted

I loved the voice acting in the first game, and here we are back for more. Sally and Grimoire are great with their banter.

Click anywhere

Normally in most point and click or hidden object games there are specific places you need to interact with. In this game, you can click anywhere you want and you’ll typically get a voiced line for it.

There’s the occasional repetition on what they say depending on where you click, but it’s nice that you’re not beholden to clicking on specific things.

Whatever you want information on, just click and see what they say, even if it’s not important.

Anyone else think ACOTAR?

The Mermaid Mask

I’ve been re-reading A Court of Thorns and Roses, and now that it’s fresh in my mind, when I saw the cauldron being talked about, I couldn’t help but think back to the cauldron in the book series.

Clearly that one’s more dangerous than this one, but what’s also clear is that there was something dangerous inside this one.
