The Man With The Silver Coin Guide
Question the merchants of New Serene
You obtain this quest after completing Coin Guard Merchandise.
When you leave the building, travel the path to the left. You can actually run up the ramp and follow it to jump down, if you don’t want to zigzag around the buildings.
Either way, the first merchant you’re going to come across is a blacksmith.
- Ask him about the extortion.
- Talk about the merchant who was found dead.
Choosing both options will check him off the list of questioned merchants. It doesn’t matter which option you choose first.
Go right and around the corner to a merchant who’s calling out to the people in need of alcohol. Because everyone needs alcohol. (I’m sipping on some rum and coke this very moment, in fact, so cheers to this guy.)
- Ask him about the extortion.
- Tell him about the merchant found dead.
Our second merchant is officially checked off the list.
Follow the steps downward on the right, and then take the ramp down as well. This guy is sort of hidden right off the bat, but the first alley to the right is where he is. You’ll hear him yelling out like all merchants do.
- Ask about the extortion problems the merchants have had.
Convince a merchant to help you
So, I just want to say that I know this last merchant seems to always be the one willing to help, since he’s the only one with the target marked icon here. But I don’t know what happens if you speak to the merchants out of the order that I did. If you’ll have to come back to this guy in the end or not anyway, so I guess it’s best to follow an appropriate order, unless you’re curious.
Speak to the merchant again.
- Ask for his help to stop the culprits.
Hope you’ve placed some points into Charisma, because here’s where it might get a little tricky for you, if you don’t want to pay him money. You’ll need four points in Charisma in order to be at 100%. For me, I was only at 25%, with no points set into the talent.
If you want to up your chance by 25% more, then you can buy a cape that enhances Charisma from the merchant himself and wear it.
Either way, decide which way to go for yourself.
- Charisma choice.
- Pay 100 coins.
Come back two days later
You can meander around a bit and do whatever you want within these two days time, but for this quest alone, I went to my accommodation.
Now, if you haven’t approached the large staircase yet, then you’ll come across a cutscene for Find Constantin at the Palace where you get a new character. Don’t worry about it–just dismiss one of the guys–, but instead of continuing up the steps, go back down the steps and to the right.
Enter the green door, interact with the rug in front of the fireplace and choose Sleep until the proper two days have passed.
Return to the merchant.
- Ask again about the trap.
Hide somewhere near
There’s a specific area you need to hide.
Facing the merchant, go left and the area is right around the corner.
Put an end to the extortion
After the cutscene, there’s an immediate battle. One of them is the leader, and for me, he had a red skull and a gun, so be careful of them. I believe there were three others that could be taken down easily, however.
Search the extortionists
Head back into the area where the battle took place and search the corpses.
Both a letter signed by Egon and a marked silver coin can be found.
Find the man with the silver coin
Follow the map to where the quest location is. Once close enough, you’ll get a cutscene.
Follow the man with the silver coin discreetly
Don’t get too close to him, but don’t lag so far behind that he gets too far ahead. If you do lose him, then you’ll need to wait until you can follow him again at a later time. Basically, it resets itself somehow.
The same for if you’re caught. You’ll need to do it all over again.
During his walk, he’ll turn around three different times. You get plenty of things to hide behind so just get behind boxes or barrels and wait for him to continue walking. Approach the end of the streetway, where the boards fences or whatever are, and you’ll get another cutscene.
Afterwards, fight the enemies.
The leader has a gun and will fire occasionally. The other ones are easy enough to kill. I parried them and came back with some sword swings. Typically, I’d finish the head honcho off with some gun shots.
Search the body of the man with the silver coin
When they’re “dead,” you’ll speak with the main guy again, and then you’ll actually need to kill him. Loot his corpse afterward for a marked silver coin.
Inform Intendant Manfred
Head into the Coin Guard Barracks and speak with Manfred.
