My Time at Portiamore like My Life Belongs to Portia.

I had this game on my Steam wishlist for a while, and I kept staring at it, every time I went through the list of what I wanted to buy next. I’m super happy I didn’t buy it, because…it came in a Humble Bundle! What luck!

And the Humble Bundle was pretty damn amazing with the rest of the games as well.

If you like farming games like Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley and even Yonder, then you’ll appreciate this game. Just know that farming is actually a side-concept you can do. What the game really excels in is construction of your property as well as the town’s.

That means a whole lot of material collecting, so if you thought RPGs from way back did a lot of grinding…hoo-boy.

You’re in for a treat.

Gameplay

This is one hell of an RPG.

So many hours can be put into it and you could probably only just have scratched the surface of what My Time at Portia can give you. You can build, you can farm, you can create relationships, you can ruin-dive, you can fish, you can decorate your own house to your liking and even have yourself a museum.

Are there achievements?

91 achievements that I wish you luck on.

What about DLCs?

What are the characters like?

Every character has their own personality and history, and their own character development the more you get to know them and boost your relations.

Who can you romance?

While you can build relationships with (most) characters, you can only actually romance a choice selection. And by the way, same-gender marriages are a thing. And so are divorces.

Have any guides?

Check out the My Time at Portia tags for some possible guides I’ve worked on.

Graphics

The graphics are beautifully done. They certainly remind me of Yonder more than anything else. The styles of things, the environment. If you stand far back and give a long look at Portia, you’ll see why it’s screenshot-worthy.

Another graphical texture I like is when you’re mining in the ruins, the ground is tinted different shades for different materials.

It’s the subtle things that catch your eye.

Soundtrack

You can get as lost in the soundtrack of My Time at Portia as much as you can with the actual gameplay. It doesn’t matter if you have to mine all day in order to obtain mats, or go out and chop trees, or fish–the soundtrack makes it easier for the grind to happen.

Is there DLC for the soundtrack?

Yes

How’s the voice-acting?

Almost everything in the game is spoken by the characters, but there are times when they’re mute and you’ll need to read the text yourselves. Sometimes it’s obvious why they did it–so the NPCs don’t repeat the same thing all the time.

Other times, though, it makes you wonder if they just got lazy and decided not to voice the lines, or maybe if the conversations were added at a later point in time.

Bugs

These are the bugs that I’ve noticed myself. There may be more that others have encountered throughout the game.

  1. There are long loading screens when an actual cinematic comes into play. And at the start of the game as well–like when you load in.
  2. Sometimes when the characters speak, their words are cut off to begin the next line. It’s minor, but very noticeable.
