Malachite is obtained through either mining or prospecting, or surfing the AH.

It’s one of the first gems you’ll get in the game, and you’ll be needing them to level up your Jewelcrafting, or the other professions noted at the bottom of this page.

I don’t normally sell these gems on their own, but rather craft things to sell for a higher price on the AH. Then again, depending on the gem, it’s always wise to check first.

FAQ

What are your PC specs?

What addons are used to gather Malachite in WoW?

While this gem can be gathered from certain mining nodes, I’m going to go ahead and pass on mentioning the specific addons for farming ore. Instead, I’ll mention addons that are best used for prospecting ore into gems.

  • TradeSkillMaster offers a variety of tools for you to use, but it can also be used to prospect ore.
  • Looks like DestroyusPro can mass prospect the ore you have (as well as disenchant and mill).

What professions benefit from Jewelcrafting?

There are three different secondary professions you can choose from that coincide with Jewelcrafting, as far as Malachite goes. Please note that while you can gather gems from Mining, we’re leaving the profession out, as it’s not viable and doesn’t help the profession itself.

  • Blacksmithing
  • Engineering
  • Jewelcrafting

With Blacksmithing, equipment can be crafted, though they aren’t attached to any transmog sets.

Engineering can get you a bunch of odds and ends, but if you want to help out the farmers who need to dive under the water in order to search for things, they’ll be able to craft Deep Dive Helmet.

Jewelcrafting is something you’re actually going to be needing in order to even prospect ore to get this and many other gems. Unless you’re going to depend on the Auction House and Mining alone to gather these. Aside from prospecting, you can craft rings with this profession.

How do you gather Malachite?

There aren’t many ways to gather gems in their uncut form, therefore leaves it to you to decide what method you think is best. These ways are the following:

  1. Prospecting ore and turning said ore into gems.
  2. Looking for the gems on the AH, which can be expensive, depending on the gem.
  3. Farming a zone for ore, which should be your last choice, unless you need other farmed material.

Prospecting

Prospecting 200 Copper Ore net me 22 Malachite.

Farming

Farm Copper Ore
I farmed my route for Darkshore and came up with this:

  • After hitting the time 14:50, I obtained 5 Malachite.
