All right, so while you can become a Hogwarts Legacy villain, you can’t exactly become the next Voldemort, the villain whose name no one dared utter in the presence of others. You can’t just randomly take lives all willy-nilly throughout the school like a total badass that you’ve always wanted to be. Nobody will be whispering your name in fear, be running from you, or even ask to be your faithful minion.
But you can pretend.
In Hogwarts Legacy, there are two ways to be the worst version of yourself.
Become a Hogwarts Legacy Villain via choices
First and foremost are the dialogue choices you can pick from. Sometimes, specifically when doing side missions with your fellow students, there’s an option in dialogue that the weak might find a little too harsh. And…I’ll admit, some of the options are kind of wow-worthy.
For instance, you can help someone collect proof of a place that they said they’ve been to, but haven’t, just so he won’t be ridiculed and made fun of as a scaredy-cat. You can go into that area and collect said item, and bring it back to the character. However, when they ask if they can have it, you’ve got a choice to either hand over said item, or to keep the item, which makes everyone ridicule that kid throughout the school.
Thus there’s a nice option, or an asshole option, telling them that they’ll grow from this outcome.
I can’t say for sure if their viewpoint on you is all that noticeable after the outcomes of all these types of quests are said and done, but I do know classmates whisper about different students, if you did happen to choose a bad choice for them.
Become a Hogwarts Legacy Villain via spellcraft
The second way will either become your favorite style of facing off with your enemies, or it will become a type of knowledge that you don’t really want to use, but it’s there in case circumstances tell you to use them.
These would be the Unforgivable Curses:
- Avada Kadavra
- Crucio
- Imperio
Avada Kadavra will allow you to kill damn near every enemy you come across on the spot. So if you don’t want to deal with a nuisance, just use this spell and they’ll be out of your way in no time. Then again, if you’re fighting an enemy and it’s becoming too long of a battle, just whip out this spell to end it already and brush the dirt off your robe.
Now keep in mind you’re not the ultimate badass that you can use this spell again and again and again against enemies in a group brawl. The cooldown has a good length to it.
Crucio is a way to torture your foe and watch them writhe in pain. I’m pretty sure this makes you more despicable of a dark wizard/witch due to the fact that the enemy doesn’t die right away. No, Crucio makes them take damage over time as well as puts a curse on them, making them more susceptible to any other damaging spell you want to lob their way.
Imperio allows you to control an enemy, but not in the literal sense. Think of it more like Assassin’s Creed Origins, where you could dart an opponent and have them attack their own. So you’ve got an enemy that’s attacking their own side for you without realizing it, and it won’t last forever, unfortunately.
In order for you to get these three Unforgivable Curses, you’ll need to acquire three different quests from Sebastian Sallow:
- In the Shadow of the Relic (Avada Kadavra)
- In the Shadow of the Study (Crucio)
- In the Shadow of Time (Imperio)
You also don’t have to worry if you happen to make the wrong choice and decide against learning one of these spells, because you can always speak to Sebastian again in order to learn one you might’ve missed out on.
If you’re not quite sold on these Unforgivable Curses and whether you want to use them or not, there’s a Dark Arts Battle Arena in the Forbidden Forest where you’re able to use these spells without actually having acquired them yet.
With having said all this regarding you being an evil witch/wizard, don’t expect to have an alternate ending in Hogwarts Legacy. You’re still a student that gets the same ending as everyone else, no matter what path you’ve decided to take in dealing with your enemies. Sure, you now know how to become a force to be reckoned with when it comes to being a bully, but in the end, that’s all you really are.
A bully.
And bullies don’t get a better or worse ending.
