Gold Ore can be found wherever there happens to be an Iron Ore node. It’s a somewhat rare occurrence, but the more nodes you obtain, the greater chance there will be respawns of Gold Ore.
I never really sought out the gold, but always leaned more toward the silver side of things.

What addons are used for farming Gold Ore in WoW?
- The addon Routes.
- The addon FarmHUD.
- The addons Gathermate2 and WoWGatheringNodes.
Is this a Gold Ore Mining route for Classic WoW?
No. I play retail, not Classic World of Warcraft, so these routes might not be the ones for you to go by.
In case they aren’t, you might want to check out Classic Guides, as they might have updated Mining routes for Classic. Honestly, it sort of seems like Gold Ore could be found in a lot more places within a variety of zones, rather than the exclusivity of it now days.
Then again, I could be wrong.
On second look, I think I’m definitely wrong.
What professions benefit from Mining?
Mining, of course, because you can’t exactly mine without said profession to begin with. Plus, seeing as this is a rare ore, you can’t prospect it into gems. What you can do, is smelt it into bars!
What else can you get from farming Gold Ore?
You have a chance of gathering Aquamarine, Citrine, Jade, and Lesser Moonstone.
Maps, Routes, and Data
Reduced resolution
The routes in this section offer you full view of the maps in question, at a reduced resolution of 1280×720. In order to get the full resolution of 2560×1440, you’ll need to purchase my In-Depth Farming Guide. It offers a variety of routes for each zone, with all the data I’ve accumulated over the years of farming.
- My miner is a Horde druid, thus giving faster in-and-out flight form.
- If your mining skill isn’t high enough, you’ll be gathering Gold Ore Nugget.
- Overall farming time per zone: 30 minutes.
Eastern Kingdoms
There are two zones that will net you a decent chunk of Gold Ore and around the same amount of it as well (at least as far as I farmed them). Luckily, the zones are beside each other, so if competition is a thing you can just switch.
Eastern Plaguelands
There are two specific routes I created for Eastern Kingdoms, with this one focusing on the bottom and the other the top. You’ll be able to check out the upper route and the amount of Gold I gained from it within my In-Depth Farming Guide. But both routes are great for Gold Ore.
- Gold Ore – 29
This zone has been mined to completion in my In-Depth Farming Guide, meaning you can now see how long it took me to get 100 Gold Ore and more from this route alone.
Western Plaguelands
I had a lot of competition in this zone, but managed to get a good amount of ore from the run. Be on the lookout for rares you may come across. Also, there is that one alliance bit you’ll be flying over. Just keep your distance up ahead.
- Gold Ore – 28
This zone has been mined to completion in my In-Depth Farming Guide, meaning you can now see how long it took me to get 150 Gold Ore and more from this route alone.
Kalimdor
Despite the fact that there are three different zones you can obtain Gold Ore from in Kalimdor, only one nets you the most, that I’ve found. So consider that your first choice, and if there’s just too much competition or you need a change of scenery, you can switch to one of the other zones.
Desolace
The ore in this area is a bit more sporadic than in other zones listed, which is why I wasn’t able to obtain as much. But if you’re finding too much competition in the other places, this one is a good backup route.
- Gold Ore – 14
Felwood
This route is pretty simplistic with the fact that you just have to stay around the border of the zone to get enough ore to fill your bags. You fly close to a horde area, so alliance need to be careful. You get pretty close to an alliance location as well, but it’s not much to worry about.
- Gold Ore – 16
Feralas
Nothing much to say on this route. There wasn’t any competition when I was flying around, and it nets you a nice chunk of this ore as well as a variety of other ore you might be looking for now, or in the near future.
- Gold Ore – 40
