Research Assistant is a quest within the game Dredge.
Met a Researcher in Stellar Basin, set up at the old fort. Needs some help collecting samples of the fish from the area. My kind of job.
She was chased away from her research outpost by an aggressive creature. Presumably it’s living in the depths of the basin. I should be careful around there.
Research Assistant Guide
Collect all samples (1x Jellyfish, 1x Octopus, 1x Squid)
This quest is obtained within the northwest part of Stellar Basin at the Old Fortress, after speaking with the Researcher.
If you don’t already have a trawl net, then you’re going to need to buy one that’s suited for Coastal fish, as it’s the only way you’ll be able to get the Aurora Jellyfish. You’ll have to go around the outside portion of the island in order to catch them as well–I never had any lucky with obtaining them within the circles of islands.
Both the Glowing Octopus and the Firefly Squid can be fished around the inside of the islands (though don’t go near the very center) and can be seen in the schools as glowing bodies. The shapes of the glowing bodies honestly tell you if they’re squids or octopi.
You can also obtain the octopus from crab pots, and the squids via trawls–depending on what you have and what you want to do.
Each fish should be caught at night.
Collect all samples (Prototype Parts)
You’ve probably come across it already if you’ve been exploring and couldn’t take the parts at the time because there was no use for them.
Look at the map and head to the northeast section of Stellar Basin where you’ll find the Research Outpost. Once there, interact with the Laboratory and Inspect the equipment on the table.
Return the parts to the Researcher and she’ll give you a Sampling Device. You’ll need to make room where your fishing line spaces are, because it’ll need to go into them. The next item you receive is the Repulsion Machine, which you can place anywhere in your inventory.
Collect all samples (Connect Repulsion Machine)
Make your way back to the northeast to the outpost, and this time interact with the Generator and connect the Repulsion Machine. You’ll get a Research Part in return.
Collect all samples (1x Anglerfish, 1x Loosejaw, 1x Amphipod, 1x Snailfish)
You’ve already got an item to fish up Abyssal fish, but you’ll also need something to fish Hadal creatures as well. In order to do this, you’ll need to spend the Research Part you obtained and go into your upgrade screen at the local port and place it into Bottomless Lines.
Once you’ve done that, at the Research Outpost, activate the Generator.
Go out into the center of the bay that you couldn’t access before and start fishing in the variety of pools. You’ll be able to find both the Giant Amphipod as well as Snailfish in this location–it doesn’t matter if it’s daytime or nighttime.
You’ll also be able to fish in a pool that’ll give you the Jewel Encrusted Band, which is an item for the Collector.
In order to fish both the Anglerfish and Loosejaw, you’ll have to travel out in the open water surrounding Stellar Basin. An easy way to spot where they are is to use the Spyglass in your tool wheel. Once again, it can be daytime or nighttime.
After you’ve caught them all, return them to the Researcher and she’ll give you a book titled A Plan for the Future.
