I played the demo to this game during Steam’s Next Fest of October 2023. There weren’t too many lovecraftian games available as demos and while I like playing that kind of genre, they can also scare me a little too much. This one fit my gaming genre with being lovecraft-oriented, but also not freaking me out too much in the process.

Pros:

  • Choices might matter?
  • Interesting grayscale scheme

Cons:

  • “Awake” is not clearly defined/understood

This game has a grayscale scheme to it which I enjoy immensely because it helps out with the mood of everything going on around it. Some things may have a bit of color to it, usually something important you can interact with which also really helps out in case you’re one of those people that have trouble seeing things when everything just looks so washed out.

Man I’ve missed playing these kind of point and click, hidden object games, where you take the items you acquire and use them to interact with the environment. I’ve got a good bit of them in my gaming library, but none that I’ve played recently.

I don’t really have a game that I can compare this one too, or at least nothing that comes to mind.

It is a bit lovecraftian because there’s a world separate to the one we’re in right now, and someone in the game mentions something that will end all humanity. Forgive the vagueness here but I don’t really want to spoil some of the important names here.

There is something called “Awake” in the game which you can use in different scenarios to help you out, whether it deals with conversation or something in the environment. You don’t have to use them, and keeping an accumulated amount might behoove you at certain points, but there is a moment where you’ll find out the game has a sort of sanity meter to it.

I can only thank the maniac dog for triggering that bit of information.

But this looks to be a fun game that requires a little thought on what you need/want to do.
