Learning the Ropes Guide

Destroy the ship and acquire Barnabas’s shipment

Learning the Ropes

Once you’ve finished up your missions in Kephallonia Islands, this is the first mission you’re tasked with, courtesy of Elpenor (due to him wanting you to kill the Wolf of Sparta). You get the mission after you’ve boarded Barnabas’s ship, so there’s no need to look for it.

Time to figure out how to battle on a ship–it’s kind of a learning curve, but simple even if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Your destination is basically dead ahead. You need to take down the single pirate ship. A few times of doing this mission, there were multiple pirate ships, but the game will tell you which one needs to be destroyed. Just be mindful of others nearby, just in case.

Ship Playstyle

  • Ramming
  • Arrows and javelins
  • Brace yourselves
  • Keeping distance

Ramming is normally how I engage a ship in battle. I try to align mine correctly so it’s facing the side of the opposing ship. After that, I go full speed and strike it in the center (or close to it). Typically, you’ll see a lit up area showing a weak point. Attack it for more damage.

Arrows and javelins are both on a cooldown, so don’t think you can spam them. Instead, alternate between the two. Javelins have more base damage than the arrows, so try to hit weak points with them.

Brace yourselves when the enemy is about to fire. Simply mash a button and it’ll help mitigate some of the damage you take. This will help in later naval battles.

Keeping distance is crucial unless you’re charging in for a ram. Keep an eye on where all ships are around you, if they’re preparing to charge you or not. Arrows and javelins have a long throwing distance, so you’re good to go and don’t have to be right up on a ship if you don’t have to be.

Trust me when I say the fight isn’t tough. Those are just playstyles to remember.
