The Invincible, not named for all the people in it.

I originally played The Invincible as a demo some time back and really liked it, and so it took me this long to play it. I still stand by the fact that I liked it, and I enjoyed all the choices you could make throughout the game.

Had to bump up the gamma (my fault)

The Invincible
You should see three images

But only because I’m an idiot, and this shouldn’t actually be a con for the game–I just wanted to get it out of my system.

You know how at the start of games it tells you to darken the screen until the image you see is barely visible? Well, I did what it asked, and I gave it enough brightness that I could see it, but holy crap the caves you go into are practically pitch black if you’ve got the gamma too low.

I mean, I get it, there’s not a lot of light sources in caves and tunnels, but you’d think as a scientist we’d be prepared with some kind of light in a possible situation like this?

Except we’re not, for the most part, and have to rely on fixing the gamma properly to at least see a little.

Having said that…I was distracted and didn’t realize there are three images to go by, and I assumed the barely visible one was the one in the middle, seeing (haha) as my gamma was so low I couldn’t see the outline on the FAR left.

This is a PSA to pay attention.

Framerate drops

There were several moments throughout the game that would cause it to stutter, and I understand that it’s loading in a big beautiful environment in the distance (probably), and it didn’t affect the gameplay all that much, but it happened enough that it was a bit too noticeable and becoming a distraction.

Comic included

The Invincible
In-game comic

I know The Invincible is based on a novel, but I really like how the game comes with a comic that updates after certain checkpoints. It’s a short segment of a comic that just kind of gives an overview of what just happened.

Several points of conversation

Some people might think this game is pretty slow-going, though that’s sometimes to be expected with walking simulators, but I don’t really think so with this one–at least, not on the first playthrough.

Yes, there’s a lot of walking or riding in a vehicle, but the otherwise quiet, dull moments are kind of broken up between your conversations with the Astrogator, or the fact you’re humming, or maybe even some peaceful music during a car drive.

There’s never too much downtime where it’s outright silence.

Now, on multiple playthroughs, after kind of knowing everything, it could become slow and a little dulled down.

Beautiful scenery

The Invincible
It’s so pretty!

Whether you think the game is slow-paced or not, the game has some gorgeous graphics to it that are screenshot-worthy, if that’s something you enjoy.
