Spider’s Silk is one of the more rare kinds of silk that tailors will need to gather in order to craft some equipment. Said equipment is mainly for transmog looks, and can also go for quite a bit on the AH, depending on your realm, so if the prices for the silk are on the cheap side, I’d grab them.

Then again, if the Spider’s Silk is on the high end, I’d nudge people to buy them instead.

Who likes to farm disgusting spiders, right?

FAQ

What are your PC specs?

What addons are used for farming Spider’s Silk in WoW?

What professions benefit from Spider’s Silk?

Since this is an open world farmable item, the good news is, you don’t need to have a profession in order to obtain it. You just have to have a character that you’re willing to send out and kill the appropriate mobs that drop said item.

The specific professions you’ll likely be wanting are:

  • Leatherworking
  • Tailoring

Leatherworking will only offer one piece of crafting equipment, so try not to go out of your way to get this profession for this silk’s sake.

Tailoring, on the other hand, is where it’s at if you’re wanting to get the most out of Spider’s Silk in the crafting department. It’ll allow you to craft a lot of equipment people will wear for transmog appearances.

What Mining/Herbalism routes aren’t mentioned?

There are a couple of zones that have spiders who can drop this silk, but…well there’s a technicality to one area, depending on your faction, and the other is just…meh.

Dismissed Zones

  • Hillsbrad Foothills
Since I’m on a Horde character, I’m unable to kill the enemy spiders in this area, as they’re friendly to our faction.
  • Wetlands
There’s a cave in the Wetlands that has spiders roaming in and around the outside of it, however their respawn is not good enough for continuous killing.

Maps, Routes, and Data

Reduced resolution
The routes in this section offer you full view of the maps in question, at a reduced resolution of 1280×720. In order to get the full resolution of 2560×1440, you’ll need to purchase my In-Depth Farming Guide. It offers a variety of routes for each zone, with all the data I’ve accumulated over the years of farming.

  • My farmer is a Horde druid, so I can use a specific Moonfire macro mentioned below.
  • Each zone was timed for 10 minutes.
  • My Moonfire macro (that you can alter for another spell if you’re using another class):

/tar Wildthorn St
/cast moonfire

Eastern Kingdoms

The one zone on this continent is probably everyone’s favorite, because anyone who’s played in this area has killed these spiders and know they can get silk, and also probably know how rare it is.

Duskwood

Best Places to Farm Spider's Silk

This zone is full of a variety of spiders that can drop silk for you, however that doesn’t mean they’ll drop more often. Plus, you’ve got players that quest for some of these spiders, so there can be competition, without them really wanting to compete with you. Another downside of this zone is all the trees. They can get in your way damn near all the time.

  • Spider’s Silk – 8

This zone has been farmed to completion in my In-Depth Farming Guide, meaning you can now see how long it took me to get 50 Silk and more from this route alone.

Kalimdor

Now the area in this zone isn’t one most people come to because it’s overshadowed by the amount of knowledge people have of killing spiders in Duskwood. This zone still has a nice area for those wanting Spider’s Silk.

Ashenvale

Best Places to Farm Spider's Silk

This is a pretty short and simple route to take when it comes down to it. You don’t have much trees in the way, which is one of the reasons this is my favorite route to farm. Also, not many people come here–most flock to Duskwood where they know a lot of the spiders reside.

  • Spider’s Silk – 7

This zone has been farmed to completion in my In-Depth Farming Guide, meaning you can now see how long it took me to get 50 Silk and more from this route alone.

Professions

If you’re curious as to how much gold you can possibly gain from the items listed below, you can always check out The Undermine Journal, choose your region, and then your realm. After that, search for the items below and see what they’ve been selling for lately.

Leatherworking

Toughened Leather Gloves
Skill: 135 | Equipment | Learned via Profession Trainer
If you’re able to craft this on your own, then it’s perfect if you’re a lower level and use either agility or intellect while going through the leveling process of quests or dungeons without technically focusing on just being a healer, because the stamina is just nice if you know you’ll be prone to being hit, and the crits are an extra success in taking enemies down.

Requires:

  • (4) Medium Leather
  • (2) Cured Medium Hide
  • (2) Elixir of Defense
  • (2) Spider’s Silk
  • (2) Fine Thread

Tailoring

Lesser Wizard’s Robe
Skill: 135 | Equipment | Learned via Profession Trainer
It looks pretty generic as far as a wizard’s robe is concerned, but even so, the stats are really good for lower levels. It’s got a high intellect on it plus high versatility–and while most people would prefer a secondary stat, you’re a low level, you can always get better gear, but this is a good start.

Requires:

  • (2) Bolt of Silk Cloth
  • (2) Fine Thread
  • (2) Spider’s Silk

Robes of Arcana
Skill: 170 | Equipment | Learned via Time-Lost Trader
Since the pattern itself is no longer available unless you head over to the Time-Lost Trader in later expansions, the robe is definitely made more for cosplay purposes or to sell to lower level players at a higher price, of course, since they can’t get it any other way unless they already have a high level toon.

Requires:

  • (4) Bolt of Silk Cloth
  • (2) Fine Thread
  • (2) Spider’s Silk

Spider Silk Slippers
Skill: 160 | Equipment | Learned via World Drop
Maybe not the best looking slippers, but they might be pretty sturdy, given what they’re made out of. They’re crafted for the intellect classes.

Requires:

  • (3) Bolt of Silk Cloth
  • (1) Spider’s Silk
  • (2) Fine Thread

Spidersilk Boots
Skill: 125 | Equipment | Learned via Profession Trainer
Not bad looking boots, if you ask me. I’d say they look like they belong on a bandit, which could possibly make them transmog-worthy for rogues? Otherwise, definitely have an intellect class wear them for a boost.

Requires:

  • (2) Bolt of Silk Cloth
  • (4) Medium Leather
  • (4) Spider’s Silk
  • (2) Iridescent Pearl

Spidersilk Drape
Skill: 125 | Equipment | Learned via Profession Trainer
A cape that’ll boost your crit by quite a bit despite that small nudge to the intellect stat. It’s a bright blue drape that’ll fit in nicely with any other blue armor you might be wearing and it’s fairly easy to craft, as long as you can manage all that Spider’s Silk.

Requires:

  • (3) Bolt of Silk Cloth
  • (6) Spider’s Silk
  • (2) Fine Thread
