The Magic Begins is a section within the game LEGO Harry Potter.

Shall we do a recap before the game begins?

I think we shall.

You start off with Dumbledore taking a stroll down the Dursleys’ block and coming across a black cat, which we all know is Professor McGonagall. Or…should’ve been. She actually has to get Dumbledore’s attention away from the random stray so they can approach the house in question.

The house…with the family that makes the Dementors seem like perfectly suitable babysitters.

Before they get to the door, Hagrid comes in with a beautiful landing on his motorcycle. Doesn’t ruin any of the important flowers at all. You can tell, because they don’t drop any studs (in-game currency), then whips out the most important baby in the world, after a brief fumble.

Harry looks super creepy as a LEGO baby.

Cue Harry’s terrible family treating him like a slave, and the chaotic whirlwind of envelopes and their hidden invitation, plus not to mention all the owls that probably made a poop-fest of the house and front yard. The family escapes to a far-away island where Hagrid himself gives Harry the important envelope and they arrive at Diagon Alley.

It’s all pretty anti-climactic without voice acting.

Kind of a missed opportunity.

Switch to Hagrid, because Harry’s practically a muggle right now. In the upper right, beside the barrel, there’s a pattern of light brown tiles on the floor. Use Wingardium Leviosa (WL) on them. Harry should be standing on the tiles as they rise so he can get to the top.

For some reason, it didn’t want to work with me at first. I had to shove Harry off of them so he could run back onto them.

Switch to Harry.

There’s not much to do up here but grab the handle and fall off the ledge. You’ll be placing the handle on the green section of the door.

Switch back to Hagrid and WL the door open.

There’s a pile of jumping LEGOs that you’ll need to use WL on before you can get out of this dead end.

You’ll need to gather three ingredients to place into the cauldron at the end of the street before you can continue. The ingredients are a spider, popsicle, and flower, and all of them are close by and…require no real effort to grab.

Just know that these need placed into the cauldron one-by-one.

Use WL on the ice cream cart for a popsicle, then backtrack to the left where there’s a spider on the web, and on the right in a vase on a table is the flower you need.

Combined together, BOOM, you’re a master of destruction.

Go to the door and yank its chain.

Head on up to the main goblin at the podium as either character and wave while standing in the lit up circular area. This won’t really grab his attention, but it will initiate a cutscene, and right after, you’ll be able to control the goblin.

Go to the padlock toward the upper left and unlock.

Switch to Hagrid and pull the chain to get into the room. Back to the goblin in order to unlock the chest.

Back to Hagrid again (I know, I know) and use WL on the LEGOs. Wave at the goblin in the painting, then hop on through the opening they created for a joy ride to the inner sanctum of the bank.

Gringotts Vaults

Have Hagrid pull the chain on the left side, but be mindful of the flames from the dragon. Once it’s retreated, the goblin can unlock the door for you.

Yep, it’s that simple.

Head into the wand shop and into Out of the Dungeon.

When you’re inside The Leaky Cauldron, at the lower left is a table with a candle on it. WL it and then do the same with the broken pieces so it’ll create a picture frame. Head upwards to another table with a candle and repeat the same process.

Now WL the stools in front of the bar and walk up them, then jump to grab the Gryffindor Crest.

How do I get the Slytherin Crest?

The Magic Begins

As soon as you’re able to wander the alley and all its shops, the first shop you’re going to see on the left is called Sugar Plums, and there’s going to be an older lady looking out the window and an area marked on the ground to stand.

Stand in the designated area and wave at her and she’ll toss you a Slytherin Crest as a hello in return!

How do I get the Hufflepuff Crest?

Near the start of the alley there’s a barrel on the right with some cleaning supplies (such as brooms) inside it. Dump that crap out, then WL the mess you made to create a weird street cleaner.

Jump on said street cleaner and make your way to the front of the alleyway.

Make sure you’ve cleared the way by dumping all needed items into the cauldron (as mentioned in the upper guide). This will cause some mass green spillage in the vicinity which needs cleaned–hence what we’re about to do.

When the slime is cleared, you’ll automatically get the Hufflepuff Crest.
