Leave the room

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Prologue - Meredith

When you’re first able to play, you’ll be the kid version of Peter Quill, who’s jamming out to some Star-Lord. It’s your choice to keep listening to the tunes while reading the lyrics or set the down the band’s cover and lyric sheet you’re holding. Once you do, you can pick up the Rolling Stone magazine (and the only reason I know of this magazine is courtesy of the song Cover of the Rolling Stone by Dr Hook and the Medicine Show) and browse through what it has to say.

Set it down and your mom will walk in.

After talking about how she listened to Black Sabbath and reminiscing on your father, she reminds you to come upstairs before she eats all your cake, then promptly steps on a Chewbacca “toy” and speaks in a Yoda voice. You just have to sigh at her because sometimes parents don’t get it these days.

[content-egg-block template=price_comparison groups=”chewie”]

The Chewbacca toy is meant to be an easter egg to symbolize the year this sort of takes place around and while he doesn’t show up too often, he will show up again to give you a brief reminder of how long it’s been or however you want to think about it.

It’s in reference to the 1977 Kenner Chewbacca action figure.

Turning off the music
If you’re a content creator and for some reason you don’t want to listen to the music anymore, or you just don’t like this type of music (gasp!), you can look down to your cassette player and interact with it in order to control the music that’s playing.

Feel free to look all around young Peter Quill’s room because you’ll find a lot of things he’ll comment on, but even more interesting things that he won’t comment on, and those things might have you thinking back to things you remember. Some might be actual easter eggs, while others not so much, but objects that you recall nevertheless.

Some of the interesting things I noted:

  • The Steve Harris wristband on the dresser by the bed are worn by members of the Iron Maiden band and they often throw them out to the crowd at concerts. (Only realizing this through IGN’s Easter Egg video.)
  • The poster for Furthings is actually in reference to Gremlins–I knew when I looked at it that it had to be something like Gremlins, but if there had been a movie called Furthings, I totally would’ve watched it too.
  • There are D&D dice on Peter’s desk (though they look rather plain, don’t they?), signifying that he’s a D&D player, solidifying that when he mentions that he’s not a good Bard.
  • You might think he seems the type to like a challenge and has at least some kind of focus because there’s a Rubik’s Cube on a shelf, until he thinks about peeling the stickers to all match the same sides. That’s called laziness.
  • A poster of Tron is on the wall–blatantly obvious as to what it references, as this movie was a big hit.
  • The next poster we’re going to mention is one that everyone talks about resembling Star Wars and Luke Skywalker. I fell for the bait too, especially with that title. But after watching IGN’s Easter Egg video, it’s actually in reference to The Last Starfighter, a movie I’ve never heard of, but apparently this guy’s good at a certain arcade game?
  • Some good ol’ transformer toys from back in the day are on one of his top shelves, one being Godzilla and the other being At-At from Star Wars.
  • There’s a plasma ball lamp beside the banana holding the guitar on a shelf.
  • You can pick up the Rolling Stone magazine that shows a watch on the backside that shows a calculator on it. Casio watches were seemingly a big seller of these, as noted by IGN’s Easter Egg video.
  • Above the couch is a poster of Samantha Fox, of course.
  • The guitar Peter can pick up and play (if only for a very short spurt that’s not nearly as satisfying as it could’ve been) looks to be a Gibson 70s Flying V electric guitar.
  • On the floor there’s a card that’s a play on Garbage Pail Kids.

There are so many more that I didn’t mention, but when you’re done looking around, open the door of your room to leave.

Though it’s sort of sad and disappointing to exit the room, as it’s a time capsule to the 80s and reminds you of all the things that you might’ve forgotten about until now.
