Chapter X – The Way of Roses is the tenth part of a walkthrough for the game A Plague Tale: Innocence, following Chapter IX – In the Shadow of Ramparts.
X – The Way of Roses Guide
Follow the banners with roses on them
Go straight ahead through the door where there are two enemies. Wait until one of them heads out and then kill the guy without a helmet. There’s a crate up ahead you can push to the right side where you can climb up the ledge.
Go through the door.
Inside, there’s an alchemist speaking of the book you’re looking for. Head down the steps.
Sneak around the alchemist while their back is turned and you’ll be able to go through the opening
In the next area there are two soldiers. Wait until they’re both looking for the book and sneak around to where the lightbeam is. Move it to the right so it no longer blocks the rats, then throw an Odoris onto both soldiers.
Once the rats are busy, go into the alcove they were hiding to grab the collectible Daisy. Progress forward through the opening between the bookshelves.
At the next area is a hallway of guards. You’re unable to get past all of them, so go through the doorway on the right after the guard moves away. Inside the room, go to the far table and toss a rock at the metal bin. After they turn, go forward.
Turn the lightbeam to the far right so it’s not blocking the rats.
Toss an Odoris onto the guard that’s standing, then block off the rats with the lightbeam. Leave the room and find a crafting table. Keep going.
Follow the prisoner
In this room, you’ll be going downstairs and hiding behind a blockade. There are going to be two alchemists that you’ll need to kill.
Next, move toward the entryway of the other guards escorting Rodric. Once they leave the room, take care of the guard with the helmet. Move to the right podium for a collectible Study of a Skinned Person. Head toward the exit.
Save the prisoner
The big guy will move forward. You need to break the chain of the chandelier above him in order to take him out.
Stand next to Rodric while looking the way you came. You’ll need to kill three guards before you can progress.
Follow the prisoner
Just follow Rodric, basically, until you’re safe.
Reach the book
In the next room is a library with a few different mechanisms. Go straight to where there’s an opening behind a boulder. Go through there and find a Theriaque collectible.
Interact with one of the levers in the center until the shelves are fully up, then let go. Rodric will take it from here.
Have him lift the section where a crate is. Pull it out and move it to where the cloth landing is, in front of the boulder from before. Climb up and go left to push the other crate off the ledge.
Jump down and move the lever on the far left.
Push the crate you’d shoved off under the section that Rodric had raised.
Run back to the crate before and climb up until you get all the way across to the other side, using Rodric to raise and lower portions in front of you. At the end is the book you’ve been looking for!
Flee from the university
After the cutscene, follow Rodric.
You’ll approach a heavy armor guy, but Rodric can take him, as well as any others out. Give him the command before progressing.
In the next area is another heavy armor guard. Hide behind the barrier and throw a rock at the metal container so his back is turned. Have Rodric take him out. To the right of the armor crate is a collectible Reading Stone to grab.
In the next area, there are two guards. Have Rodric take care of the one on the left, while you kill the one on the right.
Progress forward to a door that leads outside.
There’s a guard with heavy armor standing near a light source. Luckily, Rodric hands you an Extinguis, which you’ll use on the fire pit. Around the bin is a guard that you can use the Extinguis on their own light source for the rats to eat them.
Hop over the small fence you see and turn right. Luminosa a swarm of rats, then go into the Alchemist Cart.
Move ahead to a water fountain and wait for a guard to come running out of the building. After their conversation, throw a rock at the metal box to bring him over. Have Rodric kill him. Move around the right behind the other guard. Throw a pot to distract him, then have Rodric kill him.
Go inside the burning building and run after Rodric.
