Chapter IV – The Apprentice is the fourth part of a walkthrough for the game A Plague Tale: Innocence, following Chapter III – Retribution.
IV – The Apprentice Guide
Reach Laurentius’s farm
Up ahead there’s a gap in the fence. You can go through there and continue left where there’s a dock. Hugo will run to the end and mention bubbles in the water. (Reminds me of that one fish in Finding Nemo.) Aside from some materials there’s nothing here, so turn around and keep going until you see a small campfire.
When you reach it, turn around to the tree stump. There’s a Hermetic Vessel collectible.
Get back on the road to the windmill and you’ll see a corpse along the way. Looks like the Inquisition is here.
Hide in the flowers and throw a rock at the armor. Wait for the guard to walk away from you before moving forward again. There’s a cart up ahead with some materials and a pot. Instead of using the pot to distract the guy, use the sling and kill him.
Before going into the flower grass, head left where there’s a guard patrolling. Hide behind the wagon closest to you and when he’s near the chest, throw the pot to the far left. This gives you enough time to loot the materials in the chest (if you want them).
Go back into the flower grass.
You’ll note there’s no way of getting in, but Hugo can. Toss a stone at the metal when he’s at the far right to make him take a long, distracted walk. Send Hugo ahead.
Walk into the next set of flowers and prepare to throw another stone to distract him a second time so you can jump through the window.
Grab a pot and look out the broken window where you can see the guard. Aim the pot to the left side–otherwise the guard may see you leave the house and go into the flowers nearby.
After listening to the conversation, head up to the cabin where there are two guards. Kill the one without the helmet, then progress forward to the other guard. You’ll need to throw a pot to distract him.
Exit through the window and there’s a craft station.
Progress forward until you’re met with a field. Hugo will take off running and hide. It’s up to you to find him or wait for him to come running back to you. If you crouch and keep to the left side you’ll be able to find him and get an achievement Found!
Find a wooden boat by the shore with a dead man and grab the collectible Diary of an Alchemist.
Further ahead there are two ways to go–the left side through the field or the right side, into the home and out the window through the field. You can choose whichever, but just know I went the right path. You can kill both of the guards without helmets, or use the metal as a distraction to sneak around them.
When you come across the next area, wait until the first guy walks away and the guard on the right has his back to you before you move forward into the field. Next, you can wait until the guard on the right walks past you and sneak into the next section of grass up ahead–just know the guy shoveling might notice you.
Your freedom is straight up ahead, out the broken tower through the window.
Progress forward until you notice a lot of muck and fire pits. Time for some sprint action!
Go through the muck toward the closest fire. After that, it’s a matter of going around the muck to each light source. You can basically stay on the boarded path–the rats won’t kill you as long as you keep running. Eventually you’ll hop over a wall.
There’s no way across up ahead unless you slingshot the blockade of dead animal corpses. Once they slide down, walk over the corpses and you’ll come across an area where you’ll need to grab a stick, light it, and run up to the nearest fire pit to set it ablaze.
Light a stick and go toward the fire pit up ahead, but avoid the muck. Once the fire pit is lit, push it forward to the top.
Find Laurentius
There’s a chest in the broken tower on the left, and also a chest to the right, as well as the open barn, if you need some resources.
Go around the house all the way to the back where there’s a collectible Aquilegia. Now have Hugo go through the window so he can open the door for you. There’s a crafting station.
Upstairs through the second door is a collectible V.I.T.R.I.O.L. The first door you breezed past holds a cutscene of the apprentice and his master, Laurentius.
Enter Laurentius’s Laboratory
Slingshot a rock at the light to shatter it, then bring down both hams for the rats to feed on. Head out to the barn, where you’ll need to find a way to get to the back. Outside the barn, there’s a pig and some feed. Grab the feed and pull it into the barn, where you’ll trap the pig in.
Follow the apprentice to the side where he puts up a ladder. Head up!
Slingshot both of the lights and…try not to look.
Go down the ladder and then down the doorway.
Gather the materials for Lucas
You’ll need to give Lucas two ingredients which you should already have, but are also available in the room. Speak with him once you’ve gotten what you need. Craft the Ignifer.
Light the Embers with an Ignifer
When the rats come in, throw Ignifer into the fire pit.
Go back to Laurentius
Go upstairs, toss another Ignifer into the next fire pit, and go up the ladder. Before heading down outside, ignite another fire pit. Have at least three Ignifers crafted, then go down the ladder for a cutscene.
You’re going to start running, as well as throwing your Ignifer at haystacks to light them up as you go.
Once you reach the windmill, slingshot the two burning portions with Ignifer, and go through as they light the way. Continue running until you reach the boat.
