Chapter I – The de Rune Legacy is the first part of a walkthrough for the game A Plague Tale: Innocence.
Expect some heartbreak toward the beginning–you might even get a little mad about what happens as it seems unfair, but we all know bad things happen when certain animals appear in the start of games. Sigh.
I – The de Rune Legacy Guide
Progress through the forest
After the initial cutscene, take a moment to enjoy the scenery around you. If you’re not much of an outdoorsy person (like me), the environment will almost make you want to make an opening in your life to take a walk through a forest in the fall. One day they’ll make it so we can play a game and actually smell and feel everything around us, instead of simply see and hear.
But until then, you’re simply going to be walking and talking with your father.
It’s at this point you’ll realize it’s a fairly linear game, so there’s not much to explore. Further on, however, you’ll want to explore what you can.
Crouch under the log your dad lifts for the next section.
Gather rocks for the sling
Are you ready to try your hand with the slingshot? Well you certainly can’t do anything with nothing available for you to sling. So, by the log you’ll find a variety of little rock clusters that you can grab. Once you have six, head back to your dad.
Shoot at the apples
Now’s your chance to have some target practice (which doesn’t affect the achievement Target Practice, mind you). You’ve got ten seconds to hit six of the apples on the tree. Luckily there are only six to choose from, so you don’t really have to panic on which one to choose.
Nothing really happens if you don’t get them all in ten seconds. You just get slightly more praise from your dad for a job well done.
Follow Lion
Lion has sniffed something and took off without you. Your job is to track him down.
Easy enough, as this is a straightforward path of ducking trunks and hopping over fallen branches. You’ll soon find your dog as well as the thing he’s sniffed out.
Sneak up on the young wild boar
The game’s now teaching you stealth, so just follow the commands. Sneak into the high grass and hide in there. Unfortunately, the boar is constantly looking your way, so there’s no way to really launch a surprise attack without it running off. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try, though.
Shoot at the wild boar’s head
First try: failure. What about your second try?
Spoiler alert: also a failure.
Sorry, it’s a walkthrough and I could resist. Get as close as you can while staying behind the boar and make another shot at its head for a cutscene. If you did it right.
Actually–I’m not sure what happens if you keep missing. Probably the same cutscene no matter what?
Find Lion
Your dog’s gone off to chase it, so go after him once again.
Technically, there’s two paths you can take while looking for Lion. Left or right. If you take the right path, Amicia will come across a mud pit, explaining she’ll sink in it. She won’t. You can go through this way if you want.
Despite that, it’s a straightforward path to tragedy.
Find Beatrice in Hugo’s Quarters
You’re back home, but instead of going into your house, you’ll be going to the right where the horse’s stables are. Take the ladder up and you’ll find the collectible Duck Whistle.
If you go back down the ladder and through the smaller doorway on the right, there are pots along the wall. This is where you complete the achievement Target Practice. Grab some rocks and set yourself up to break some pottery.
Once done, head back on the path to the inside of your home.
To get to your mother, you need to go left. However, aim for the right first if you want another collectible. You’ll be going through the kitchen into another hall where a ladder is. Climb it and at the end of the upper floor are Spices.
Backtrack into the entrance hall, go through the doorway (which should be straight ahead if you went for the collectible) and run upstairs. Beatrice will tell you there’s something on your bed, so follow her into your room and interact with it to obtain Tablecloth.
Go back to the closed door Beatrice came out of for a cutscene.
Find Hugo
Back where you were, head all the way to the back into Hugo’s room. Trust me, you’ll know when you’re in it. Also trust me, you’ll know where to find him.
Get out of the house
Call Hugo over to follow you and go out the doorway. Once another guard goes into the room ahead, you can either follow behind, or head out to the left where you’ll walk straight through the hall. In the doorway, a guard attacks a maid. You’ll go through here and down the steps.
It’s pretty straightforward at this point, with going through different rooms with guards that aren’t facing you. Once you reach the fireplace, interact with the door on the right.
Follow Beatrice
Here’s where the fun begins. As well as the deaths, if you’re not careful.
Follow your mother down the steps and into the high grass on the left. Keep to the high grass until a guard escorts the gardener past you guys, and follow you mother to the next area. At this point, wait until the guard murders the dude he’s talking to and walks by. Everyone will go through and you’ll eventually come across a wall.
Help Hugo over it, then go right and take the rocks from the bench. Throw a rock at the armor reserve to distract the guard. Keep walking and you’ll come across another area to throw a rock at the metal pans. Once both guards are distracted, bypass them.
Now’s an area where you’ll have to grab a pot and toss it to the left, as your sling won’t be useful.
Past that guy, you’ll encounter a door you can’t get through. Hugo will have to crawl through the hole in the wall.
After he opens the door, wait a little bit for the guard with the torch to walk to the right. It’s a straight shot to the window you’ll climb into up ahead. (For some reason, Amicia doesn’t help Hugo up here.)
Take a right and follow your mom into the high grass. Release Hugo’s hands and go to the other side to grab a pot in the high grass. Throw it as far as you can away from the guard when he’s looking in the direction that Beatrice and Hugo will have to cross. This way he takes more time to have his back to them as you call them to cross.
In the next area, throw a rock at the “scarecrow” to call the guard over. When he walks away, head to the door.
Escape the Inquisition
Run.
Just run like your life depends on it on the path that’s laid out for you.
Once you reach the end, that’s a rap for The de Rune Legacy.
