Kill the Sea (Demo) ★★★★☆
Kill the Sea, the critters in the sea, not the actual sea.
Sail your way to victory on a deadly campaign across the Seven Seas in a seafaring sandbox survivors-like. Hunt menacing beasts of legend, complete deliveries, win races, defend outposts, find treasures or gamble it all in an oceanic world driven by chaos, risk, and opportunity.

Takes a couple tries to get used to
I’ve not played a lot of action roguelikes, but for the most part, with the ones I have played, it’s basically you kill things, collect currency, level up, buy things, rinse and repeat until the game’s basically won.
In this game, it’s kind of the same thing, but you also have to move around the fog of the sea to reveal other lighthouses, each one giving you specific things that you can either buy, or even mail that you can deliver for currency.
I didn’t really understand that concept at first, so while I was just meandering about the one lighthouse while finding another, tougher enemies started showing up, and I kind of just blindly bought a sailor and didn’t pay attention to their upgrade perks and it was a mess.
I think I died twice before I got the hang of what I needed to do.
Find the lighthouses, upgrade accordingly, don’t spend everything on sailors.
Spacebar made upgrade screen disappear?
I don’t know what happened here.
Some kind of upgrade screen appeared, maybe from a level-up, I wasn’t paying much attention, and I pressed what I think was the spacebar and it disappeared. I don’t even know if I chose an upgrade or it just peaced out without allowing me a perk for my level-up.
A little frustrating that you can step away from something like that with a wrong key being pressed.

Variety of upgrades
Killing enemies is great and all, but I think the most fun to be had with these types of games are the upgrades you’re able to obtain.
In this game, you get a variety, depending on which lighthouse you’re interacting with. So there’s one to buy sailors, one for more storage space, another where you can take a letter to another lighthouse for cash, one for specific items, and then weaponry.
You can upgrade these lighthouses with the proper items, allowing additional perks from them, and every day they’re reset.
I kind of really love that gameplay loop.
As long as I could stay alive throughout it.
