Hello everyone. My name is Kay and this is a playthrough
0:05
of Marie's Magical Deliveries the demo. It doesn't say on the title screen, so I
0:11
had to look at my paperwork where I write down my uh pros and cons for
0:17
reviews. Uh this is an interesting game. It's I think it's going to be a very
0:23
short game when it fully releases, but that's fine. It's got cute
0:28
illustrations. and a unique
0:33
interface. I'm not I'm not sure if I like it, but it grew on me. So, there's
0:41
that. Yeah, this is just a demo. So, enjoy Marie's Magical Deliveries
0:49
demo. Apparently, there's no music at the start, so
1:01
I made it. I set my broom down on the rack by the
1:06
door. You made it, man. Like father like daughter,
1:11
right? How was your first delivery, sweetie? A little windy, but not too
1:18
bad. But the wind's the best part, isn't it? Feeling a breeze in your hair,
1:24
rushing through clouds. There's something special about the wind at that
1:29
height. Yeah, the riding through the countryside was the best
1:36
part. Okay, there's the
1:46
music. That was always your mother's favorite place to ride though. Through. Too bad we don't get many deliveries out
1:52
there. Ever thought about expanding the business to farmland? It was nice making
1:57
a delivery out there. Not unless you want to learn how to transport kettle on a
2:04
broomstick. Maybe another time. Were you able to pick up the rest
2:09
of your belongings? Yep. Here's the rest of my stuff. He grabs my bags and helps me to
2:17
my room. Every time I walk in, I expect a layer of dust and a musty smell, but the smell of fresh linen hits me
2:25
instead. I know it's been a while, but I hope it still works for you. Yeah, it's
2:31
fine. We start to unpack the rest of my bags, setting stuff in my closet and on the shelves. After opening a new box I
2:38
brought in, he jumps up. I almost forgot. I haven't shown you how you'll be making deliveries in town
2:44
yet. Is that a broom? Can't I wait until later?
2:50
Well, you still have some to make today, don't you? I might have gotten a few rush
2:56
orders right before you arrived. How about this? I'll unpack the rest of your stuff and you can make some
3:02
of the deliveries. I'll do the rest later tonight. I'm sure you want to look
3:07
around town some, don't you? Yeah, I do. It's been years since I've been in
3:14
town. Even after being back for a week or so, everything still looks so new. Great. It's a bit different from
3:21
making deliveries in the countryside. All right, so I have a list of all deliveries that come. We're the
3:27
only witch delivery service in town, so we have a lot of clients to serve. Sometimes these clients will have
3:34
something sent to us and then they want us to bring it to them. Or maybe they have something we need to pick up and
3:39
deliver elsewhere. Sometimes their requests are a bit different, but still something we can
3:46
manage. And what's that supposed to mean? You'll see. What have I signed myself up
3:55
to? I wonder what the weirdest delivery is going to be. Hopefully, even like now. Let's see. I'll have you do these
4:02
two deliveries first and then return back here when you're done for some more. If you don't get lost, that
4:08
is. I of course I won't. Here, this delivery is at the
4:14
college campus in town. A teacher there requested this box to be brought to them. Once you're done with that, the
4:20
front office should have another package for you. Bring that to the carnival. The
4:26
carnival? Yeah. Did you see that big ferris wheel in the skyline? We now have a permanent carnival in
4:32
town. It's brought a lot of tourism in. You should check it out on your own
4:37
sometime. All right. campus first and then the carnival and then back here,
4:43
right? Good luck. Then I step outside into the city life. Now, where do I go
4:49
from here? This is
4:58
cute. Let's go to campus. All right, I found the right place. I head to the front office and
5:05
give them the name of the recipient on the box. They point me towards their office. Hello. I'm here to deliver a
5:12
package for a Eugene. Ah, thank you. So, who are you?
5:17
I'm his daughter. I'll be making deliveries starting today as well. Oh, well, welcome to town. Hope it won't be
5:24
too hard for you finding your way around. I hope not, too. Of course, it
5:29
helps them that I was born here. Ah, this is exactly what I needed. Now we'll have to play another DVD for
5:36
my biology class. Instead, we can study actual specimens. I'm not going to dissect a
5:42
frog, are they? I don't even want to look at what's in the box. Yeah. No. Thank you
5:48
for your patronage. I wave them off and head back to the office I came from. After a few moments, they are able to
5:55
find my next package, a backpack. It has a luggage tag on it
6:02
with the name Sharice. When the paper slip Dad gave me, that's the name of the next person I've got to see. The name
6:08
sounds familiar. I pick up the light backpack and head out on my
6:15
broom. Where do you even like go in a carnival to ask someone about a package
6:22
drop off? Like the ring
6:28
leader. The roar of the carnival hits me as I get closer.
6:34
I really I really don't know. I don't know if a ring leader even owns a
6:40
carnival. Where would the owner be? As soon as my feet touch the ground,
6:47
I'm swept up in the crowd. Sugary sweet cotton candy and funnel cakes cling to the air mixed with laughter from kids
6:54
and couples. I love funnel cakes.
6:59
The giant ferris wheel towers in the background looming over the park and even some of the skyscrapers nearby.
7:05
It's a fantastical display of everything whimsical. H. Now, who wanted this backpack from
7:11
campus. I consider trying to find a front office or main lobby, but appears impossible. Every building is designed
7:18
as increasingly more elaborate fantasy designs. The crowd leads me towards a grand carousel. Every inch of it is
7:26
illuminated with multiple rows of warning animals to ride. In front of the carousel is bright
7:35
clown. All right, I can handle that clown. I normally don't like clowns.
7:42
Just I don't know. Why you got to conceal your face like that? Now no one knows what you look
7:51
like. Even though she's against the vivid carousel, she's vibrant enough to stand out on her own. Her clothes seem
7:57
to dazzle in the light as she performs. In one hand, she has a long ribbon, and in the other, she has some
8:04
sort of clacker that chimes when she closes it. She twirls around, catches the eyes of everyone
8:10
nearby. A flurry of confetti pops out. The crowd
8:15
cheers. Thank you. Thank you. I step forward as the crowd pedals dissipate.
8:21
That was wonderful. Thank you. Wait, that backpack you have. I take the backpack
8:28
off my shoulder and hold it out. Sharice. Yes. Thank you. Thank you so much for bringing my backpack. How are
8:34
we supposed to find her in all this carnival as a
8:41
clown? I left it in class, but I was too busy with work tonight to go back and get it before they locked the buildings.
8:47
Thank you again. That's all right. Don't worry about it. She quickly scribbles her
8:52
signature on the delivery receipt and hands it back to me, eager to dig inside the backpack. Seeing her this close
9:02
[Music] up Marie, it's
9:09
me. It's been years. I didn't know you were back in town. Just got back,
9:14
actually. Well, that's great. I haven't seen you since we graduated high school, right? Ah, you probably didn't recognize
9:21
me in all this makeup, did you? Though, I'm not one to talk. I didn't see it was you at first,
9:27
either. That's all right. I work here as a part-time performer now. Every night, I get to
9:34
dance around the twinkling stars to applause. It's like a
9:41
dream. You're graded a two. I'm not used to being
9:48
like, I don't know, a girly girl response type of person. I feel like I bet it is is
9:55
snarky. Even though I don't think it's supposed to come across like that. It's just how I would say it. We're just
10:01
going to go with you're great at it, too. I never knew you're so into
10:07
performing. I guess it's just something I never thought I'd be able to do in the first place. It's wonderful here. The
10:13
colonel has brought in so many new people and bright faces. When they said they were hiring,
10:18
I figured I'd be able to get a job in retail. Not something like this. But enough about me. What about
10:24
you? What brought you back into town? Uh, I don't want to bring the mood down
10:30
so quickly. I moved back in with my dad and I'm helping him with
10:36
deliveries. That sounds so fun. Riding around on a broomstick all day. Simply magical.
10:44
Would riding around on a broomstick be fun? I feel like it would really make your butt
10:50
sore. I admit it is pretty nice. Unless you know like there's an actual seat on
10:57
the broom. I don't know. I don't know how it works in this game. Have you ever ridden on a
11:03
broomstick? Uh, not since high school. Nobody in my family is a witch, so I
11:09
open my mouth to say something, but a loud ringing cuts me off. Ah, I've got to be on the main stage in 5
11:16
minutes. Marie, I'll see you later. Okay. With a hop, skip, and a jump, Charice rushes out and disappears into
11:23
the crowd. I sigh. Theres was a close friend since
11:28
childhood, but after I moved away, I lost contact with her. Now I'm back in town, though. Maybe I should try to
11:34
rekindle that. But things have changed since
11:40
then. I'm home. What does he do here? It
11:47
looks I don't know. Is this packaging material? It kind of looks like paint
11:53
supplies to me, but now that I think about maybe it is packaging
11:58
material. Good. Good. Did you find your way around town? All right. It was fine.
12:04
I knew you'd be able to do it. Now, here. There's only a few more deliveries for the
12:10
day. Hands me two small packages. The one on the left goes to the library and campus. I would have given to you
12:17
earlier, but it just came in while you were gone. The one on the right goes to the old shopping district. I should say
12:23
what store it goes to. Thank god brooms don't have like gas mileage on them
12:28
because going from one place and then having to go back to that same place
12:33
would be so annoying. I'll finish the rest on my own. All right, I'll be back
12:41
soon. So, back to campus. Already back on
12:47
campus. I remember visiting campus in high school to see if I wanted to go to college here. I have my mouse on the
12:53
screen. I don't normally have my mouse in the recordings, but I did it for a
12:58
hog game. Now it's just it's there now. So, I'll try to be mindful of that. I
13:04
know some people are like, I think it's their mouse cursor on the screen. It's
13:11
not. Remember visiting campus in high school to see if I wanted to go to college here? Of course, I end up declining and going to school elsewhere.
13:18
How would things have been if I'd gone here? I have a package for Hans and that's for
13:26
me. A man in a long expensive looking coat walks up meekly raising his hand.
13:31
His eyes dart away as he gets closer. I double check the package before handing it to him. Without
13:37
hesitation, he rips the seal open on the slum box. Like, at least wait. He's the
13:43
box over, letting a book fall out into his hand. Perfect. The glum look in his
13:48
eyes fades as he as a sparkle takes over them. Flips over the book, inspecting it
13:54
eagerly. The book looks practically new with a glossy cover. Completely ignoring me, he starts muttering to
14:01
himself. Dr. Mo's next book on the theory to constellations in regards to increasing magic. I've been waiting
14:07
months for this to finally come out and there's not a scratch on it.
14:12
Thanks. He turns around to walk off. But wait, I need you to sign off on the package. Oh,
14:19
right. His eyes lose Shane as he trudges back. I've given him an order to do
14:25
something. I hand him a paper and a pen. Without looking up at me, he signs it and walks off again. All right,
14:32
thanks. I don't think he remembers me. Hans was always the quiet type in
14:37
elementary school and only got more introverted in high school. He would always rather spend time with his stories than with actual people.
14:44
They always seem so lonely. Introverts aren't always lonely.
14:50
It's just we prefer to be alone. I saw him pick up my broom. I have a feeling I'm going to be running
14:56
into a lot of familiar faces doing this. So, we head back to our
15:04
home. Did you deliver the packages yet? You never know when you'll be able to help someone with something. Yeah, I'll
15:12
bring these to them now. Oh, shoot. I could only remember the campus
15:19
one department. No, not the right place. I
15:24
don't think it's a carnival. No, Ember
15:30
Warehouse. I stroll down the street, admiring the shops that have popped up since I was last here. Some of the
15:35
storefronts I recognize, others look brand new. There's a wide variety of shops ranging from niche boutiques to
15:42
vintage collections to restaurants and more. One shop in particular catches my eye with its bright neon
15:48
sign. Get your game on. I double check the address on the
15:53
package and walk
15:59
inside. I'm not one for arcade games, honestly. Like I'll go to Dave and Busters, but the thing I like most at
16:06
Dave and Busters is that uh oh, it's it's like a coin
16:13
machine where you try and knock coins over into the
16:19
slot. I don't know how to explain. I'm sure you know what I mean. There's like
16:24
cards in there and you have to knock the cards out to get tokens. I blink a few
16:29
times. My eyes trying their best to adjust to the sudden change in lighting. The inside of the shop is dark, but
16:34
every corner is illuminated by the lights from arcade machines. Hello. I cautiously walk around, even
16:42
though there's patrons inside. They're all too fixated on their games to notice me. On one wall is a row of card tables,
16:48
not nearly enough lighting to see adequately. Despite this, a group of people is huddled around them. My turn.
16:56
One blonde lays a few cards down on the table, reading off a laundry list of details and status effects. Oh, it's a
17:03
DND. That lets me draw three more cards. And I'll activate this. So, you have to
17:08
discard those three cards as a EU, which means I can activate this since it was discarded by my
17:15
opponent. Hello. A few of them turned to see me, but the rest have their eyes peeled on
17:20
the table. Because I activate this effect, I can add a card I've discarded to my hand.
17:26
Dude, someone's here. Everyone at the table turns around, including the
17:31
blonde. Hey, what can I do for you? I've got a delivery for the shop. Sweet. I
17:38
was wondering when the next booster sets would come in. I don't remember seeing you ever deliver them before, though.
17:45
I'm new to the job. Poor you. That means you'll have to make deliveries to this chump.
17:50
Hey, who are you talking about? I'm about to beat you, you know. And who's slacking off at work in the first place?
17:57
We'll finish this later. He starts to walk back to the front, motioning me to come with him. Sorry about that. Slow
18:04
days means we had to pass the time somehow. He calls this a slow day. It's all right. He takes a paper
18:12
slip to the front desk and casually signs it. clearly used to getting packages for the shop. With the minimal
18:19
lighting from the desk light, I can see his face much better. His hair is lighter and his face more masculine than
18:24
I originally thought. He looks familiar, but I can't put a name to him. Here you go. I pick
18:32
up the paper from him and check the name. It looks like it says caster. Looking for something,
18:40
Marie? He leans against the countertop, grinning. Didn't know you were back in
18:46
town. I just got back recently. And you're already doing deliveries. No rest for a witch, huh?
18:53
Glad I'm not one. Most people wouldn't say that. Most people want too much. I
18:59
like what I've got. Hey, let me show you around while you're here. You've got a little spare time, right? I mean, just
19:06
cuz you're a witch doesn't mean you got to make deliveries, right? Or is that a
19:11
thing? Yeah, that'd be great. Sweet. Hits the countertop and walks
19:18
toward the arcade machines. A couple years ago, one of the alumni in town wanted to make the game club a more
19:24
permanent thing. So, with a few other alumni, they pitched in to set up a shop. At first, it was mostly board and
19:31
card games, but they realized the more uh regular people in town much prefer arcade games and such, things I can
19:37
easily pick up and put down. So, now we've got a wide variety of everything.
19:43
How do you see the rules and guidelines in this low lighting? What you mean? We just hold up to the light. Sounds more
19:50
like they become nocturnal in here. I started working here a few months ago. Time sure flies when you're
19:56
having fun. Aside from it looking like a neon cave in here, it does seem
20:01
fun. That's nice. I say all that and that's your response. You haven't changed much, have
20:07
you? I guess we're not much of a arcade gamer. He turns around laughs to himself. He's
20:13
not laughing at me, rather. That's just his carefree attitude. There's a lot of new sites to see in town. I bet you'll
20:20
be busy getting your bearing straight. Yeah. It'll be a while before I see everything that's changed. There's even
20:26
a permanent carnival in town now. Yeah. Anyway, I'll let you get back to
20:33
work. It was great to see you again. Yeah, you get back to work, too. Shutter. I won't let you buy any of
20:39
these new booster packs. The group at the card tables laugh. Caster shrugs them off and shows me to the door. If
20:46
you're ever in the area, feel free to fly by. Probably have more packages to bring here from the looks of it. Then I'll see
20:54
you again real soon. He waves me off as I get on my broom and
21:00
leave. Caster, a guy who was never the best in class, but always the most vocal. He left an impression on everyone
21:06
he met. No matter who it was, getting along with people was a breeze to him. As long as it wasn't a sister, though.
21:14
Despite having their own groups and being overall friendly people, Sharice and Caster never got along well with
21:19
each other. Ah, that's why his remark about the carnival was that. But they had to
21:28
do something together. They were always at odds. I guess some things never change.
21:34
Dad, I'm home. We're good this time, I hope. Rain pummel against the windows as I hang my
21:40
broom up. Oh, I didn't even hear you knock. How was it? I have to knock to come
21:46
in. Not too bad. I'm pretty tired, though. Go get some rest. There's
21:52
leftovers in the fridge. If you haven't eaten yet, I'm going to finish my own deliveries. If you're asleep by the time
21:57
I get back, then I'll see you in the morning. Sleep well. As quick as I arrive, he's already out
22:03
the door. Yeah, some things really never change. I head to my room and pass out
22:10
on my bed, the sound of the rain lulling me to
22:17
sleep. I slept harder than I thought I would. I stretch out and meandered to
22:22
the studio. Good morning. Morning. I'm just checking today's deliveries. That many?
22:31
nothing we can't handle. He hands me a small list of places. I need you to head to the
22:37
business district to the large office building, go to the card shop downtown, and head to the carnival. He points out
22:44
each of the packages and parcels on the table as he hits lists the locations. It's a lot at once. Each of them have
22:50
the exact addresses labeled. Got it. No. Got it. That's what I like to hear. Fly
22:58
safe. Avoid the geese. Okay.
23:04
Offices. I have an envelope for a Mrs. Rehea here, but it says to hand deliver
23:09
it. Standing in the lobby, I click the buzzer for the upper floors. Hello. I have a letter for a
23:16
Mrs. Rehea. I need to hand deliver it. We're letting you in right now. The
23:21
elevator opens and I step in. Classy. Can you point me to Mrs. Reya's
23:27
office? The receptionist eyes me up and down before pointing down a hallway to her left. Her expression doesn't look
23:34
judging, so much as concerned. Mrs. Ray's office has no windows to the outside hallway. Instead,
23:40
a large oak door separates us. I knock. People really like their privacy
23:45
in offices, don't they? Mrs. Rehea. A moment passes with no response. I knock
23:52
again. No response. The door is too large to slip anything underneath, so I
23:57
hesitantly open the door. Mrs. Rehea, no, we're not going to delay
24:03
another week. Hire more workers. What is it? Soundproof. I know you can't just throw
24:08
more workers to everything, but we still have time to train new people. Woman furiously taps her fingers on her desk
24:14
while talking on the phone. She seems to have noticed me, but doesn't care to answer yet. Mrs. Ray, I have a letter
24:20
for you. She waves me off. I guess she thinks it's a bill or something. Then
24:25
get John on it. If he's doing something else, then tell him this is more important. I flip the envelope over to
24:31
see who the sender is. It's from uh Betsy Gainer. Mrs. Ray stops her
24:36
tapping. Let me see that. She immediately stands, snatching the letter from me. I really love this lady. With a
24:44
quick motion, she tears it open. Her expression sh softens.
24:51
Thank you for bringing this to me. She gently rest the letter on her desk and signs off saying she received
24:57
it. Oh, I got sneeze. He must have really wanted you
25:04
to receive it if they asked for it to be handd delivered. It's from my grandmother. I wasn't able to attend her
25:10
family reunion last month because of work. She doesn't know how to use the internet, but she knows how to get photos printed and send them in the
25:16
mail. She hands me back her signature slip. Deadlines can be missed, but
25:21
sometimes family can't wait. I hope you'll be able to see her again soon. Yes, I hope so,
25:28
too. Maybe if you didn't work so much, you'd be a little nicer. I quickly head out the door and
25:33
back outdoors. Okay, so the game shop is
25:40
next. Back here again so soon. I guess Caster wasn't kidding when he said they get a lot of packages.
25:47
I walk past the front counter and meandering around the arcade machines. As expected, there's a loud
25:53
commotion coming from the tables in the corner. Draw unexpectedly. Hands is sitting
26:01
across from caster. Take that. Caster slots on a
26:06
card on the table. Hand slips over a card over. Blocked. No, with this card.
26:11
I negate your negate. Oh my god. Too bad because
26:16
floats another card over. Now I can negate your negate and you take my damage.
26:23
Damn. Caster drops the cards in his hands on the table, giving up. Hey, that lady is here. Group turns to see me
26:30
standing here waiting on them. Mary, hello. I have another package for you. Thank you. Thank you.
26:38
He takes the receipt and quickly scribbles on it. Many of us run the table all curious at what's in the box.
26:44
Except Hans, who's avoiding looking my direction. Maybe he does recognize us.
26:49
He just doesn't want to interact with us. Let's see. I wasn't expecting this for another few
26:55
days. It's some new board games from indie creators that the owner ordered online. There's enough here for us to
27:00
have a stock to sell on the display version. You mean one for you to play around with? If you don't want to see
27:07
it, then you head out. Be my guest. We're staying. We're staying. Catcher
27:12
pulls the board games out of the box, laying them on the table. Hans puts up their cards. Oh, Hans, did you know?
27:19
Mary's back in town. Hans freezes. Welcome
27:24
back. Come on. That's all you got to say? He nudges Han's shoulder, but Hans doesn't budge. You two talked some in
27:32
high school, right? I think we talked a little bit. Then again, I'm surprised this guy ever talked to anyone that
27:38
wasn't the teachers. So, did he have a crush on us and then we left and he all bumped up? Is that Is that what I'm
27:44
thinking? I'm sure it wasn't that bad. Castro changes a glance at Hans and back at me. We'll let bygones be bygones.
27:52
Huh? Anyway, thanks for bringing this. If you ever want to try to try them out
27:58
or help me break the sky out of a shell, I'm sure I'll be back soon.
28:03
weigh them up as I head out the door and
28:08
then oh shoot office
28:15
shops. Was it the carnival? Carnival's lively as
28:21
ever. The package ahead needs to be delivered to any of the managers and I can't be left at the front office. I've
28:27
got no choice but to head through the carnival. I walk through the front gate blending into the crowd.
28:33
Doesn't take long until I spot a familiar face. Marie, fancy seeing you here, Shereice.
28:41
She twirls, letting the lace float in the air. You're always here for business, aren't you? Maybe one day I'll
28:47
be able to walk around on my own. But for now, yes. I've got a package for one of your managers. Any of them can sign
28:53
off on it. All right, let's go look for one. Aren't you working? I just know she
28:59
doesn't have any makeup applied. Oh, did I just noticed that, too? No, my ship just ended. She hops
29:07
and skips in front of me, leading the way deeper into the fairy tale world. This way. Doesn't take long for her to point
29:14
out one of her managers to me. Few minutes later, and I've delivered the package. That wasn't too
29:21
bad. Mhm. What are you thinking? I was just wondering since I'm done with
29:28
work and you finished a bit more of your work, would you like to ride the ferris wheel with me? Just once and then you
29:34
can get back to your deliveries. Sure, I'd love
29:40
to. It shouldn't take long. And if we get stuck and I can just fly us off on my broom. Well, that's a perk of being a
29:48
witch, isn't it? Great. We head towards a large ferris wheel
29:53
looming over the carnival. I hadn't realized quite how big it is until now.
29:58
The giant metal frame sparkles with lights twinkling against the night sky. Theres walks up to the entrance. I don't
30:05
think I would ever get on one of these. I just I don't like heights and the fact that if this thing
30:12
breaks the car for two, please. The attendant lets us in the carriage, shutting the door tight. My heart skips
30:19
to be as the carriage sways upward in the air. Have you ever ridden a ferris wheel before?
30:25
Nope. I haven't really. I'm glad I asked you to ride it with me
30:32
then. The carriage eases upwards, bringing us above the tops of the circus tents. I will admit, the view is
30:38
probably really nice at the top, like if it's nighttime or sunset or something,
30:44
but nope, not enticing. The carriage eases upwards, bringing us
30:51
above the tops of the circus tents. For people like me who can't use magic, it's the closest we can get to flying around.
30:57
You can see the whole city from here. When you're in a plane, everything is so tiny, it's hard to register that's
31:03
actual places. But up here, you're just the right height to see details. It makes you appreciate the
31:10
small things. You know, you're right. If you're scared, you can hold my
31:15
hand. She holds out her hand. I surprised her by actually taking
31:21
it. It'll be over before you know it. Our carriage reaches the peak of the ark. It feels like I can see every
31:28
corner of the city from here. Now the city once hated is entirely before my eyes. Oh, she once
31:34
hated it. The roar of the carnival fades into the background. Wonderful, isn't it?
31:42
Yeah. I don't think we like it. And not cuz the ferris wheel. Well, I think we
31:48
don't like it cuz we're looking at the place we don't like. Dice is glued to the window, still
31:53
gripping my hand. It's more fun watching her than the
31:59
view. And ta, we're back on solid ground. I'm not used to being in the air
32:05
where I can't control it. That means you need to take it easy more often. You say
32:10
that, but yet we're at war you work. That's different. Here, everyday is like
32:16
a dream. and see why you like it so much. But for now, But for now, I need
32:22
to get back to work. Whenever you want, I can show you even more of the carnival. There's even more rides and
32:28
performances, and there's food trucks. Thank you. I'll take you upon us
32:33
sometime. I waver as I head out. Glad that's
32:41
done. Done for the day. Yep. Think I'm going to call it a night. Good night.
32:47
Really? Three deliveries and you're done? You woke up, did deliveries, now
32:52
you're passing
32:59
out. The sunshine hits my eyes, waking me up much earlier than I wanted. My
33:04
room is too bright to fall back asleep, so I give up and meander into the studio. Good morning, sweetie. I hope
33:11
you slept all right. It's fine. I'll walk over to the table where a
33:17
large stack of boxes and parcels are. Can I get a little more help today, too?
33:23
Yes. Great. This group of packages all need to go to large warehouse downtown.
33:29
All of these? Yep. It's only one stop, but it's all you can carry. You'll have to fly slower, too, since it's so heavy
33:36
and bulky. I sigh, rubbing my arm. There's a lot here. Carrying it all
33:42
will be a serious hassle. It was a pain carrying all my stuff here, but that was all mine. It's a
33:48
different story when it's a client's items. All right. Can I like get a
33:54
break? Am I getting paid for this or am I just helping my dad? Why safe? He just keeps shoving
34:02
packages into my arms. Yeah, this is definitely the right place. I carefully land. My feet gently
34:10
hitting the concrete. Steel frames and iron beams surround me. I expect to hear heavy machinery that's oddly
34:17
quiet. After checking out my surroundings and making sure it's safe, I head towards a small
34:23
office. Hello. I'm here to deliver some packages. Just in time. Can you bring
34:28
them to the plant? The plant? Yeah, it's a large building across the walkway. Can't miss it. The
34:35
guy swags like it's obvious before walking off.
34:40
Uh, if it's a factory, I think there are like rules in place, protocols to not have allow random people to walk
34:50
around. I step back outside and reassess my surroundings. All the buildings look monstrous, so I try to head directly
34:56
across the aforementioned walkway. I've got a delivery. Great.
35:01
Just leave them against the wall. All of these? How much is there? After going
35:06
over all the packages, we devised a plan to split them up across their correct buildings. A group of workers help us
35:12
carry them around. Thank you so much for this. It would been a pain if we hadn't got them in all at once. Now we can finish up our
35:20
maintenance of all of the machines. Maintenance. When we were doing an inspection earlier this week, we
35:26
discovered several of the gears and parts become brittle from overuse and we're now unsafe. All the machines were
35:31
turned off, but we can't start just one back up. We all have to be turned back on at the same time. Every day they're
35:38
turned off as a lot of hours we can't work and process food. So, thank you again. The worker waves going back to
35:45
one of the machines where they're already installing the new parts. Ah, not all the packages are
35:50
simple trinkets. Some people are counting on these packages. They're counting on Well,
35:55
yeah, we're like freaking FedEx in the air.
36:01
I don't know how she carries heavy things though on a broom. I'm
36:06
home. I walk over to the living room to find dad passed out on the couch. Sheets of paper scatter. How come he gets to
36:13
sleep and I don't? Well, he gets a nap during the day and I don't.
36:18
Dad, the amount of packages from this morning has gone down considerably. He must have been running around making
36:24
more while I was out. man. Still though, there's work to be
36:30
had. I walk over to the table and assess what's left. Some packages are listed as
36:36
being deliverable sometimes in the next day or two as they're not rush orders. There's a few here though that need
36:41
picking up. Looks like Shereice, Caster, and Hens need deliveries for things they'll
36:47
have to pick up from them. I should pick one for now to focus on let handle the others when he wakes up. So, I'll go
36:54
help. I'm going to make him talk to me. I'll help Hans out. Looks like he
37:02
needs some help carrying some heavy stuff. I'll grab a quick bite to eat and head out the door back to
37:10
campus. It says he should be around the library somewhere. He's not where I saw him
37:17
yesterday. Hans, are you here? There's a sound of a thump by the bookshelves followed by an avalanche of books.
37:24
hands over here. I reverse over to the bookshelves until I find one in complete
37:30
disarray. There on the ground is hands surrounded by books. The air feels a bit heavy as dust floats around. He's
37:37
surrounded by what he loves. What better way to go out. What? I I was trying to get some of
37:44
these books down. He coughs in between his words. I f away at the desk with my
37:49
broom. The air settles as we silently restack the books into piles. I don't know which goes where, but Hans doesn't
37:55
seem to mind where I place them. I I'm sorry about the mouse.
38:01
That's all right. Maybe next time though, you should try using a ladder. Is this what you need help with? He
38:08
readjust his hair and jacket cuffs, nodding. Yes. I need to get these books and magazines to place they'll be better
38:15
used. Better used. We only have a limited amount of shelf space for books in the library. We can either keep old
38:22
books or get new books. It can't be both. Every quarter, I have to go
38:27
through records and see what books haven't been checked out in months or in bad shape. Normally, we're supposed to
38:33
throw the unwanted books in the trash. You throw them away, but I He
38:42
coughs, taking the moment to recompose himself. I think it's a waste. A book
38:47
can mean a lot to a person. They just need the opportunity to read it. So, I've contacted different places around
38:53
town that could benefit from these instead of me tossing them out. There's a lot here. Let's start putting them
38:59
into my carrying case. I would have flown them to the people who agreed to take them, but I don't have a broom that
39:05
can carry them all. Also, he's a witch, too. That's right. Hans is a witch, too.
39:11
Will you be able to cure them all? Of course. Don't worry about it. A little extra weight won't hurt my broom,
39:18
including me. Including you. My heart skips a beat. I've never
39:24
flown with someone else, much less. I know it's a bit much to ask, but I can make the deliveries quicker. I've
39:31
already been in talks with everyone who'll be accepting the books. No, right. I shut the carrying case and make
39:36
sure it's strapped tightly to my brim. So, we do have a carrying case. Let's be off, then.
39:45
This should be it. We make our way up the staircase of a senior living home, going to the second floor with a few
39:51
cookbooks in tow. Hunch checks his phone before proceeding down the hallway. With
39:56
a deep breath, he knocks on the door. Miss Doris. A moment passes, then
40:02
another. He knocks again. This must be dreadful for an
40:07
introvert. Miss Doris, I brought you some books. It takes another moment before the door slowly caks open. Oh
40:14
dear. Is it the groceries? No, it's Hans. We spoke over the
40:20
phone. About what, dear? I brought you some books. Oh my.
40:25
Some new cookbooks. Please take good care of them. I can hear the door closed and
40:31
Hans walks back to me. That's a few of the books taken care of. Where to now?
40:38
The residential apartment's downtown. He doesn't say anything else as we walk back down to the
40:43
lobby. A man of many words. He called this an apartment, but
40:48
all I'm seeing is expensive decor and sleek architecture. It's definitely a newer building aimed at a higherend
40:56
clientele. We had to be buzzed up to one of the rooms. The elevator ride is quiet
41:02
like most of the rides so far has been. Here we are,
41:07
Elmyra. Ah, there you are. Thank you for bringing them to me. I would have come to pick them up, but I was swamped with
41:13
schoolwork. That's no problem. Bunch shovels through my carrying case, picking out some of the books and
41:19
handing them to me. In turn, I hand them to Ammyra. Vampirism at the turn of the
41:24
century. Herbology, fashion of the 20s. These are all so lovely. Thank you.
41:31
That's a widespread of topics, isn't it? Doing some studies on the 1900s.
41:37
Yes, it's part of my major. I'm studying how vampires lived a century ago and how we shifted to where we are
41:43
now. It's a misconception that vampires weren't very widespread until only recently. My thesis isn't how we've
41:51
always been here. So, vampires exist in this
41:57
game. Just like magic, it's always been there. Are you studying something similar for magic? Hans, no. She went to
42:05
the point. Hans's head hands hurt the last stack of books. I hope you get a good grade. With these, I'll be able to.
42:13
Others might not want them, but I'll be able to make notes in them now. So again, thank you both. Amara carries the
42:20
books inside her apartment, leaving the two of us alone. That leaves one more place to drop by. That's not too bad.
42:27
For some reason, he doesn't look too happy. Is it cuz we're with him? It's the worst one yet. How bad
42:36
could it be? He doesn't say anything else.
42:43
Go. Yoohoo. Looking for me. Without even looking at caster. Hans
42:49
lugs a pile of magazines onto the countertop and turns away. Hey, you can't just leave these
42:55
here without saying anything. That's littering or something. Have fun. Hans's head soarses the door, but
43:01
hang back with Caster. He's just been posting magazines now on a desk. So Castra is like an extrovert. Hans is an
43:08
introvert and we just like we clash. I've had I you know I got
43:15
extrovert friends. That's they're exhausting. Oh my god, they're so
43:23
exhausting. Trading card game. Step our ways edition three. Trading card game rule book edition 26.
43:32
Oh, I don't know what OCG is. Oh, card
43:39
game. What is OCG? Card catalog. What am I supposed to do with
43:46
all these? Most of them are outdated. We'll figure something out. What makes them
43:53
outdated? New cards and archetypes come out, which changes the meta. Older cards don't change, but the strategies around
43:59
them do. That's what most of these discuss. I nod my head. Gastra scratches
44:04
the back of his head. So, you've got kitchen knives, right? The old knives don't change, but the manufacturers come
44:10
out with new tools for using them. Some of the knives become obsolute while others become better to use. Okay, that
44:16
makes sense. It makes sense. It's not a great analogy, but maybe it helps make a bit more sense. Uh-huh. If the knives
44:25
cards stay the same, then can't the magazine still be referenced somewhat? I guess the card catalogs are still
44:32
mostly usable. Maybe I'll tear the papers out and use them to make some new posters, huh? Sure. You're fine with
44:39
that? It's better than the trash. Really? That's better than nothing.
44:45
Caster and I exchange a glance. They begin seriously combing through the magazines and sorting them into
44:51
piles. Thanks, then. I wave off to Caster as we head out.
44:57
I'm glad that's over. Hans lays down on the grass. I do the same next to him.
45:03
The park is mostly empty at this time of night. There's a soft glow from the city coming off the skyscrapers and
45:10
carnival. I'm surprised you were okay with them using the books however they wanted. Aren't book nerds usually super
45:17
productive over the sanctity of books? When the choices are either trash
45:22
or anything else, it's not hard to pick anything else. Others might disagree with me, but I don't care if they mark
45:28
or tear them up. It's theirs now. I personally like annotating in
45:34
books. I like to see other people annotate, too. How they go about
45:40
it. What matters is the work they see in it. No one else sees worth in those books, which is why I had to throw them
45:46
out in the first place. If someone can see worth in something, others can't.
45:54
Is he talking about himself right now? His voice trails off as he looks toward the skyline. Thank you for your help. It
46:02
was nothing. A breeze whistles through the park. I pull on my jacket. I'm sorry
46:07
I acted like I didn't recognize you at first. You've changed so much since high school. Or maybe I've still stayed the
46:15
same. I know we didn't talk much back then, so I didn't know what to say to you. Maybe I was afraid of the version
46:20
of you in my memory. I'm sorry. What are you apologizing for? Don't
46:26
worry about it. The version of me in his memory. That doesn't sound
46:33
good. Mary, why did you come back? Caster told me you moved away to
46:39
go to college. I moved in when my mom had a graduation and started attending college
46:46
there. But a few months ago, she became sick. She went in for a regular checkup a month ago and never came out.
46:54
And now I'm back here. Do you want to be here? I don't think I do. I in high
47:03
school, all I wanted was to leave town and never look back. I thought I had to leave, so I did. I liked living
47:09
somewhere else for a time, but I don't think it ever truly became my home. I
47:15
realized that just moving somewhere else wasn't enough to make it my home. When I first found out I'd be moving back here,
47:21
I was angry. Looking back on it, I don't know why I was angry at a city that
47:27
doesn't feel hate. I was angry at my own assumptions. I
47:32
sigh. It's kind of stupid, isn't it? No. You did what you thought was best.
47:39
You chased after something. Just because your goals now are different doesn't mean it was a mistake. I'm sorry for not seeing that
47:47
sooner. He holds his hand out to me. contact. But now that I do, I'm here if
47:54
you ever need anything. I take his hands. I'm glad you're
47:59
home. His cheeks flush underneath the moonlight. I squeeze his hands. Let's
48:05
head back. I help him up in my broom. I do have a mess to finish cleaning up the
48:11
library, I suppose. But do you think we could take the long way
48:16
back? The long way back? It's a broom ride. They're like, "It's no long way back. It's a straight
48:23
shot. You have to hold on." He puts his arm around my
48:28
waist. That's right. The feeling of the wind always was the best up here. It's even better with someone
48:38
else. That's it for the demo. All right, that was a cute start.
48:46
Obviously, there's going to be like three different routes then. We can romance a character.
48:54
Maybe as an introvert and someone who enjoys books, I can read a book a day if
48:59
it's really interesting. I like Hans. I know I was going back and forth
49:05
between Hans and Hans, but sorry. I can't help it. And I don't know
49:11
if I was like swaying my mouse by I do that because you know
49:17
add if I did that I apologize but yeah anyway that would be Mary's Magical
49:24
Deliveries the demo version. Hope you guys enjoyed.
