Mithril Ore is not an ore I really remember farming all that much, except since I started making these guides. I especially remember the hardships of facing the dreaded water nation that is Thousand Needles. But aside from that, I think whenever I farmed Mithril, I was really searching for its rare counterpart Truesilver.

Q&A
What are your PC specs?
- You can find them on my PC specs page.
What addons are used for farming Mithril Ore in WoW?
- The addon Routes.
- The addon FarmHUD.
- The addons Gathermate2 and WoWGatheringNodes.
Is this a Mithril Ore Mining route for Classic WoW?
No. I play retail, not Classic World of Warcraft, so these routes might not be the ones for you to go by.
In case they aren’t, you might want to check out VanillaGuides, as they might have updated Mining routes for Classic. I bet Thousand Needles wasn’t near as bad in the past. I was there back then, but I honestly can’t remember it.
What professions benefit from Mining?
First off, Mining, because you can’t exactly mine without said profession to begin with. Though you can still possibly acquire ore through other means–such as treasures and chests you pick up while fishing, and mining mobs you kill.
Want more out of the Mining profession? I’ve made a separate page regarding (mostly) everything about the profession in my In-Depth Mining Guide for WoW. If you need a quick location for the best of a specific ore, you might find it there. |
A secondary profession that you might be interested in is Alchemy, as far as Mithril Ore goes.
Honestly, Alchemy for this material gives you a potion with a small boost in armor for a limited amount of time.
What Mining routes aren’t mentioned?
There’s only one zone that you can’t get a good amount of Mithril in while farming the route in question, but every other one is good to go.
Dismissed Zones
- Searing Gorge
This zone can net you a decent chunk of Mithril, but not as a standalone mining route, therefore it can only be found as an herb/mining combo route in my In-Depth Farming Guide.
What else can you get from mining Mithril Ore?
You have a chance of gathering Aquamarine, Black Vitriol, Citrine, and Star Ruby.
Where do the links take you?
If there’s an icon and a pop-up showing on the link, then you’ll be taken to WoWHead for more information on the item in question. For every other link, they’ll either take you to a specific page on this site for information I’ve acquired on said item, or they’ll send you to an outside page, which I’ll typically note when linked.
Maps, Routes, and Data
The routes in this section offer you full view of the maps in question, at a reduced resolution of 1280×720. In order to get the full resolution of 2560×1440, you’ll need to purchase my In-Depth Farming Guide. It offers a variety of routes for each zone, with all the data I’ve accumulated over the years of farming. |
- My miner is a Horde druid, thus giving faster in-and-out flight form.
- Mining skill isn’t high enough? Then you’ll gather Mithril Ore Nugget.
- Overall farming time per zone: 30 minutes.
Eastern Kingdoms
Badlands
I tried slimming the route down by dismissing the right side of the zone, but as a druid, the respawn for the nodes couldn’t keep up with me. No big loss though, more like a win. More chances to get Gold along with your Mithril.
- Mithril Ore – 346
Burning Steppes
You get a ton of ore from this place, so it’s super good if you need a ton of Mithril, some Truesilver, and not to mention an arrangement of gems. The only thing you need to look out for is getting near a few horde NPCs as well as a small alliance campsite.
- Mithril Ore – 407
Eastern Plaguelands
I’m not a big fan of farming Mithril in this zone. Sometimes there’s a dry spell in the route and it makes me wonder if the respawn is a bit behind me, but then the nodes start appearing. So if you’re a druid, make sure you grab every mining node you see, even the couple that might be in a cave.
- Mithril Ore – 197
Kalimdor
Felwood
This route is pretty simplistic with the fact that you just have to stay around the border of the zone to get enough ore to fill your bags. You fly close to a horde area, so alliance need to be careful. You get pretty close to an alliance location as well, but it’s not much to worry about.
- Mithril Ore – 390
Tanaris
It’s such a desolate zone to do any kind of farming in, really, so don’t expect a fun time. But, it does offer a nice stash of ore from the entire route. Even if the nodes are kind of a good distance apart, leaving you with longer empty moments of flight.
- Mithril Ore – 181
Thousand Needles
Mining in this place is even more brutal than picking herbs. Probably because it takes longer to mine a node than pick an herb. Still, it’s a good place for Mithril, if you don’t mind deep-diving.
- Mithril Ore – 229
Professions
If you’re curious as to how much gold you can possibly gain from the items listed below, you can always check out The Undermine Journal, choose your region, and then your realm. After that, search for the items below and see what they’ve been selling for lately. |
Alchemy
Lesser Stoneshield Potion ✩ Skill: 230 ✩ Enchant ✩ No longer available While the recipe is no longer available in the outside world, it may still be purchased on the AH. Aside from that, it’s a good armor increase. |

Thanks for reading!
Holy crap, you made it to the end of the page. And hopefully you gained a lot more knowledge than you initially had before coming here. And on that note, I thank you for even choosing this page to read in regards to everything related to farming Mithril Ore.
If this page did help you, I’d love it if you actually voted in the top section. It helps me know if a page is basically good to go or needs a bit more touching up.
And to end it, if you haven’t checked out my In-Depth Mining page, you probably should, since you apparently have the profession. It’s got a whole lot more info on it than just this little ol’ Mithril Ore page. Not only that, but think about buying my In-Depth Farming Guide for World of Warcraft–it features tons of routes for all kinds of zones, and it’s a one-time payment for information I’ve been acquiring for years.
