The first order of business is learning how to heal yourself, which means you’ll have to first gather the appropriate plants. As such, gather the Salvebrush berries, which look like tall pink plants. When you do, there’s a slight growth to the green meter underneath your health bar, which is basically the medicine pouch.
The amount of health you can get back is reliant on your medicine bar, so it’s good to keep the green bar full when you can.
After gathering the berries, you can eat them to heal that little bit of health you’ve lost.
Follow Rost.
You’ll learn you can crouch into tall grass to avoid the sight of machines, and what’s better is that the tall grass you’re able to hide in will have a sort of gleam going across it as a telling sign.
Keep following Rost from one grassy hideaway to another until you’re clear of the machines.
The next manner of business is collecting rocks, and while you might’ve noticed the symbols for both branches and flowers are represented by leaves, rocks are represented by the exact same symbol, which is a little odd, so it makes you pay attention to what you’re picking up instead of just blindly trying to grab everything, I guess.
After chasing Rost, learn that you can throw rocks to attract the attention of machines.
Once he kills it, you can loot the creature.
Next you’ll be gathering Ridge-Wood from tree stalks. This will then allow you to craft arrows, while also showing the stats of the Hunter Arrows for the currently equipped Hunter Bow.
Approach the Strider and activate the scanner to look at the yellow Blaze Cannister on the Strider’s back.
Shoot to kill, just know shooting the cannister will take multiple attempts in order to knock it off. Not only that, but it will shift its body toward you making it harder to hit if you’re not moving around. The eye is an easier way to destroy it.
After looting, follow Rost to find the young man in trouble.
Focus and scan the nearest Watchers to see the path they take, and head to the next nearest brush without them noticing you. Do this several times before you approach the young man.
Once you reach him, do the same with scanning the paths of Watchers to get to the checkpoint.
After Bast throws the rock at you, you will be offered a choice in how you retaliate.
- Aim for his head will confront the challenge directly
- Drop your rock to express compassion or give voice to her deepest convictions
- Knock the rock from his hands for a clever, less obvious approach
Know that whatever choice you choose, it will have no impact on the main story. Instead, the choices just affect Aloy’s personality and relationships regarding people. Some choices might even change the outcome of a specific quest, but overall…Aloy becomes the person you make her, shifting conversations to the way she’s molded.
