Coarse Stone can be found while mining Tin Ore, as well as among a few other types of ore, but since those don’t drop as much, they won’t be mentioned. Like most stones, I never really bothered with this one too much. It was simply fodder for a profession or thrown to the AH wolves.
Now keep in mind, because Coarse Stone is connected with the Tin Ore routes, a lot of the information is going to be the same for both different posts.
FAQ
What are your PC specs?
- You can find them on my PC specs page.
What addons are used for farming Coarse Stone in WoW?
- The addon Routes.
- The addon FarmHUD.
- The addons Gathermate2 and WoWGatheringNodes.
Is this a Coarse Stone Mining route for Classic WoW?
No. I play retail, not Classic World of Warcraft, so these routes might not be the ones for you to go by.
In case they aren’t, you might want to check out Gold Goblin, as they might have updated Mining routes for Classic. I don’t think I’ll dive into the Classic era, as the hype seemed to have died down pretty quick.
What professions benefit from Mining?
First off, Mining, because you can’t exactly mine without said profession to begin with. Though you can still possibly acquire stone by other means, such as in the treasure chests from fishing, out in the treasures of the world, and even mining different enemies you kill.
There are two secondary professions that you might be interested in as far as Coarse Stone goes.
- Blacksmithing
- Engineering
With Blacksmithing, you can craft useable items in order to sharpen your weapons. So if that’s your class’s kind of style, it’ll be good for you. BS can also craft a reagent that’s used in crafting a ton of BS weaponry and armor.
Engineering will allow you to craft a reagent that’s used to craft a variety of other engineer products. But even if that sounds nice, you’re still able to buy said reagent from vendors from all over. Consider it a reagent to craft just to get rid of all the stone you have.
What else can you get from farming Coarse Stone?
You have a chance of gathering Lesser Moonstone, Moss Agate, Shadowgem, and Jade.
Maps, Routes, and Data
Reduced resolution
The routes in this section offer you full view of the maps in question, at a reduced resolution of 1280×720. In order to get the full resolution of 2560×1440, you’ll need to purchase my In-Depth Farming Guide. It offers a variety of routes for each zone, with all the data I’ve accumulated over the years of farming.
- Coarse Stone comes from Tin Ore nodes, thus the routes section is the same as the Tin Ore post.
- My miner is a Horde druid, thus giving faster in-and-out flight form.
- Overall farming time per zone: 30 minutes.
Eastern Kingdoms
Eastern Kingdoms holds the two zones that I tend to veer toward when it comes to farming Tin Ore, thus you’ll acquire the top amount of stone as well. Of course, the two zones in question are also farmed by most of the other gatherers as well, so it’s a matter of sharing is caring.
Hillsbrad Foothills
This is a horde zone.
This zone can net you a ton of stone, but in saying that, there’s going to possibly be a lot of competition coming your way. While I don’t personally go into caves, if you find competition on the outside, try going into the caves and nabbing the nodes, as most farmers won’t bother.
- Coarse Stone – 401
Northern Stranglethorn
This is a horde zone.
If you don’t acquire enough stone as it comes up on the route, then the respawn of the nodes you’ve already gotten will take a while longer. So make sure you grab all the nodes that shows up. There’s a small section that gives Iron Ore that I added in, only to help with the respawn a bit more.
- Coarse Stone – 259
Kalimdor
While the zones below aren’t as popular as the ones above (at least, in my opinion), they may still have some kind of traffic in regards to farmers. Just think of the places closer to large cities and high-questing zones as zones that might have others searching the area for nodes.
Ashenvale
Worst part about this zone? The trees. Best part about this zone? The amount of stone acquired. You’ll have less competition here because it’s not much of an open area as Hillsbrad is.
- Coarse Stone – 404
This zone has been mined to completion in my In-Depth Farming Guide, meaning you can now see how long it took me to mine 1000 Coarse Stone and more from this route alone.
Stonetalon Mountains
I had to improvise a bit with this map, because I didn’t want to get too close to any faction bases. I like this location due to the fact you’re not flying your way through huge masses of trees. Also: No caves. (I’m looking at you, Hillsbrad.)
- Coarse Stone – 285
